Pre-E?

Hey gals, I've been quiet on the board here because I was trying to keep myself distracted from completely obsessing over labor signs. I went in for my 39 week appointment yesterday and my usually very low BP topped out at 152/86. No protein in urine, but I have to go in for another BP check tomorrow. If it's still high, I'll be sent to the hopsital for the pre-eclampsia work up. I'm a wreck. Anyone else had a random high BP reading that ended up being a fluke? I'm worrying which is only going to beget higher blood pressure readings and therefore worrying about worrying. -Rachel

I have. I had a really high reading at the Dr's at 35w with my first babe. They freaked and put me on meds instantly. The thing is, I started passing out shortly after this. My next reading at 36w was way too low. So, they put me on meds when I didnt need them. They should have done a repeat bp about 10-15 mins after the first, let me relax and calm down(I'd hurried to the office etc). I would see if there's a drug store around that you could take your bp at. It might be white coat syndrome. I have it really bad. I can walk into the Dr's office and go from 120/70 up to 140/90 in a few moments. I would try to relax as best you can and insist that you have 10 mins of lying still, listening to soothing music(not sure if you an iPod etc) before they take your bp. This is the only way I get an accurate reading at the docs office. Hugs~

I had one high reading at an appt where the student took it, my mw retook it at the end of the appt and it was back to normal. I think that's normal if your stressed or rushed to the spot etc.

I had a high reading one time with DS, I rested a few minutes on my left side and it went back to normal.  Mine is usually really very low (today it was 101/60).

I'm sure it was just a fluke reading. If you are worried...maybe you could run over to a drug store if you have them in your area that have the blood pressure booths so you can check your own for your own peace of mind. Worrying can't be good for BP!

Have you started or changed any supplements or medicines recently?

I started taking liquid cal-mag toward the end this pregnancy, figured it couldn't hurt getting some extra Calcium since I can't eat dairy and dark greens weren't appealing to me.  But shortly after I started taking it I got a higher than normal BP reading at a mw apt. followed by a killer headache that wouldn't go away later that day/next day.  DH took my BP again and it was pretty high (for me anyway though he wasn't concerned with it as a stand-alone number)...stopped the Cal/Mag and the headache stopped and BP went back to normal and continued to be normal for duration of pg.  We think I'm just really sensitive to that form of cal/mag...anyway, just a consideration if you may have changed anything in your dietary/supplement/med regimen.
