Registries

Thread Starter

I thought this was already mentioned so I was looking for links to other people's registries but couldn't find them. So who has a registry and would you be willing to share links? I need ideas and the internet is way too big for me to search baby stuff. I did start registries at Target and myregistry.com. I'll try to post links.

Was planning to start registries at buy buy baby and babies r us to get their promotional stuff and completion coupons.... Not a lot to put on since everything (almost) is gender specific alternatively, I don't want all neutral if that means yellow/orange/green. Since people have normally sent gifts after the baby was born, I have just gone online and added to registries with my newborn beside me.

jodie, your babies r us registry just goes to the main registry page...it doesn't link to yours.

Can I just butt in and say I HATE that about the Babies 'R Us registry. We have been trying to link to ours on myregistry.com and there seems to be no such thing as a permanent link to that particular registry. They seem to really want you to use their sharing feature to bombard your friends and family with the link over email or Facebook. It's extremely annoying. Target has a straightforward link that works just fine. Why can't BRU be the same?

Thanks for letting me know. So I guess I can't share that link here. Weird.

Here is our registry: http://www.myregistry.com/visitors/giftlist.aspx?sid=36f62c7e-8361-4df1-b46f-7cdcaf00641b#

It requires a password?

I'm hoping this link will work!  I don't know that anyone will see it or use it. As far as I know, only my church choir is doing a shower for me, and they'll probably all be knitting and crocheting things. :)

Do you think it's weird to use the Facebook app to share your registries, if no one's asking and you don't have a shower planned?

I've kind of wondered the same thing.  I don't want to be rude, but, I mean, hello!  <----  pregnant!!!!!!

We just share by word of mouth...we haven't had showers for any pregnancy. My office usually gives a generous gift for babies, but I know the person who buys it so she just asks me what to get. I get the sense that lots of people think they have something more "exciting" to buy than the stuff I really want on the registry and it's pointless except for the registry completion coupon which helps on stocking up on the little things.

I don't really know the etiquette, but I would think it would be appropriate to use the app. I might cover my butt a little by posting the notification only to a subgroup of my friends, and maybe adding a comment to the effect of "Some of you have been asking about this so I thought I would share. Feel free to disregard. :)"

It's already started... the influx of gifts! I'm not sure why I really chose to do a registry. We're not having a shower until after the babe is born so friends from out of town can meet her, and I firmly believe that people just want to get what they want to get and don't care what you want. On the other hand, I feel like it's a gift and I'm usually happy for whatever that is- my friends and family know me well enough that they're usually pretty close, but it just always makes me wonder. I will admit that I've been guilty of that in the past, especially for friends who've had girls after I had all boys (sorry, sorry! Gender neutral is fun and great but when you have three boys, it's different to shop for a girl!). Anyway, I feel like I'm really missing some things on our registry and tried to add a variety of different types of things/prices and here's what I've got  http://www.myregistry.com/public/amyanderskine   A lot of books because the friend who's throwing the shower is a librarian- she's requesting each person pick a book to include with their gift. Love it!

i agree with this.  i just had my shower, and while i am very grateful for the gifts, only 2 things came from my actual registry.  i find it a little frustrating!

Yeah, that is precisely why I didn't even bother to register. The only real things I wanted were jogging stroller, pack n play, swing and cloth diapers. First 3 are too expensive for most and I know that none of the people coming to the shower were going to get me cloth diapers. So I just accepted the fact that we would be getting a ridiculous about of baby clothes that we don't need and save myself the disappointment. Friend of family got us the pack n play, ILs are going to get us the jogging stroller, we will probably find a swing on sale or from craigslist and I will make lots of prefolds/fitteds in addition to the larger (3+ month) fitteds we have and buy some covers in addition to the woolies that I crocheted.

But really, other than that I have lots of clothes from DS1 & DS2, several baby wearing items (just want to get some cotton jersey for a nice breathable wrap), co sleeper, boppy from DS1. I can't think of much else Im going to need... I could ask for an awesome homeopathic baby care kit or some goats rue to keep my milk supply up (I jest because my & DH's family already think Im crazy, Ill keep all of my homeopathic remedies to myself)

I'm reviving this thread because I want to fill in my registry with necessities, and since I'm a first-time mom, I don't have the best idea of what those things are. So, GO!

(FYI, I'll be breastfeeding, cloth-diapering, and babywearing)

Karrey,

Here are a few things that I really liked and used often with #1.  Not all are necessities, but things that I did use and think made life a little easier-

  • Boppy (positions baby well for nursing + my babe liked to be propped up in it as he got older)
  • Nursing Cover- there are always free promo codes for Udder Covers, just Google it if you're interested
  • Lanolin Nipple Cream- I used this pretty regularly for the first few weeks and as chap stick and on baby's dry cheeks later...a good overall moisturizer:)
  • nursing pads (I just used disposable, but I know many women prefer cloth ones)
  • 1-2 velcro swaddle wraps (blankets work fine, but I'd always get nervous that they'd get loose and cover their face with the blanket!)
  • sleep sack for cold months
  • burp cloths (I actually got a stack of old cloth diapers that I dyed with fabric dye in fun colors)  You can never have enough of these, but I would say a minimum of 10.
  • car seat
  • stroller
  • bouncy seat (I liked this for the portability between kitchen and bathroom for while I was cooking/showering)
  • baby soap/lotion (I always just used regular wash cloths and towels as the 'baby' variety are pretty small)
  • Clothes- I liked onesies for summer + layering them under other clothes for fall/winter.  Some nice white ones could get a lot of use.  My husband also much preferred the kimono side snap ones for the first month or so as he liked not having to put it over the baby's head.  I think the Carter's brand of onesies are more true to size and quite a bit nicer quality wise compared to Gerber.  I don't really remember having to change my baby as much as everyone told me I'd have to.  Just wore one outfit per day for the most part.
  • Diapering- we had 20 BumGenius diapers and that # seemed to work well.  Also make sure you have a diaper pail/large wet bag + small wet bag for the diaper bag.  There are so many different 'systems' that people have for their diapering!
  • Waterproof matress pad for YOUR bed!  We got one that's not plastic-y at all and it has been a life saver.  Lots of leaky boobs, spit up, etc in bed and no issues:).

Iowa -- that's a great list!

Karrey - you can register at most online diaper stores, and link it to MyRegistry.com to put everything together, if you want.  I am SO excited that we have a cloth diaper store opening up next month, but I also bummed that it won't be in time for my next shower! :(   I registered with them online anyway, and she said they could do next day pick-up or gift wrap and deliver straight to the shower.  So, while it won't be as fun for guests to shop in-store, I do hope to get a few things from there like cloth wipes, wool wash, cute wet bags, and dipes.

I registered for a lot of practical things mostly as my own to-buy list, and to keep track of choices I've researched like car seats, etc.  As it turned out, my church choir surprised us with a shower at our end-of-the-year BBQ and bought our crib and mattress off the registry -- so that was really nice!   (Even if we never use it.)  I had another small shower, and they all bought clothes and little toys, which I expected. I realize no one's really going to want to buy me nursing pads. :)

If they don't buy clothes, people do like to get things like toiletries, Boppies, sheets and receiving blankets, pajamas, diaper bag, baby carriers, washcloths and bath towels, etc.   I could not find kimono shirts locally, but I registered online for some organic ones from Sckoon, and my cousin in Germany sent them to me!!  :)

The one critical thing we need that we can't wait for someone else to pick up the tab on is the car seat.  Hoping to find the one I want on Craig's List!

cruncyxianmom, if i might interject, I am a first time mom, so I don't know about this completely, but all the advice I have been given says you should always buy a carseat new.  that's one of the ways to be sure it is as safe as possible.   I got almost everything second hand, not just as a way to save money, just because that's what I think is ecologically responsabile, and I shelled out for the carseat.  Just my 2 cents!
