Ok Zub, now I think you're extra crazy! You're AT the gym before 5??? You're my hero!!! :-) I used to get to work before 5 sometimes - but I was getting paid a lot of money to do it. ;-)

No kidding about working out before 5! Back pre-kids, I trained for my half marathon at 4am, and I thought that was crazy!

Off to yoga for mother's day - exactly what I need :)

I love my prenatal yoga class so far!!  I am so excited b/c this is the 1st time I have been pregnant and living somewhere that prenatal yoga classes are a reality!  I had no idea it would be such a workout!  I am doing well with my goal to walk 60 minutes every other day and then on the off days I either walk 30 min or do the yoga at home.  I found a great yoga station on Pandora and it is very relaxing to do in the evening.

I tend to excercise after dinner once DH is home.  Sometimes the whole family comes and the boys ride bikes.  But sometimes I really enjoy walking by myself!!!

I feel SO much better after excercising.  If i ever needed proof of the power of endorphins...I am getting that proof now!

Happy Mother's Day!!!

Silly, me too (needing the endorphins!). It feels worth it, mostly, to get up so early to workout! But I won't pretend it's not a huge struggle sometimes.

Today was both Mother's Day and my birthday so it was a double celebration. We went on a 5 mile family run this morning followed by a 19 mile bike ride on a local trail. I was pretty tired afterward but the long soak in the tub and all the birthday cake helped a lot!

WOW!~  Happy birthday and happy mother's day!!  What a cool combination!!

Happy birthday Zub!!! Was your b-day on mother's day when you were born? My sister's youngest daughter was born on mother's day. :-) Though her birthday was yesterday - not mother's day this yr.

Happy birthday Zubeldia! My niece had a birthday yesterday also. Mine is today. :) I was born on Mother's Day in my birth year....how about you?

Happy birthday to you, Sunny! I'm actually from the UK and Mother's day is on a different date earlier in the year) but I was born on a Thursday, I think. Do you have some nice plans for the day?

Another early morning at the gym. I wasn't necessarily planning on going but I was awake at 3:15 and couldn't get back to sleep so I eventually just got up at 4. I'm so tired now, though!!

Checking in!

I'm really glad I've stuck with all the walking and exercises. My body feels really good, and I've regained a lot of strength. Walking is a little slower than usual, but my stamina is good now and I don't feel so tired after. We've really enjoyed finding different hiking trails through various parks, forests and conservation areas - it's so beautiful and refreshing, and totally wipes away any anxiety and stress I'm feeling at the time. We pack a picnic (and lot's of water) and find that it doesn't get too hot with all the shaded trees. I totally plan around bathroom locations too though :)

Of course i'm finding squats and other body weight bearing exercises a lot more challenging, but it feels good too.

I've noticed I don't have the back pain that was starting a few weeks ago, I think all the yoga & stretching is paying off.

How is everyone else doing? It must be getting hot everywhere, how is everyone handling exercising in the heat?

It's not terrible here, but I have to make sure I'm out early, or walking where there is a lot of shade. We had some smog days already - looks like it will be gym days for those.

I've been getting some exercise and it feels really good. I went on Monday and did cardio and some weights at the gym. I'll do prenatal yoga tonight. I'm feeling better about my body - maybe my thighs have stopped growing. LOL. I'm also noticing that I can do a higher level on the cardio machines - so perhaps I'm even getting a bit more fit! DD is hating the Y childcare lately so that kinda sucks, but at almost 3.5, she's just gonna have to suck it up for a little bit. Hopefully DH will actually make it home in time for my yoga class tonight and she won't have to come. I'm so glad there IS a yoga class w/childcare options - but I hate dragging her there until 7:30pm. She should be getting ready for bed then.

Thanks for checking in, fit mamas!

I had a great weekend of running. We did a 6 mile family run on Saturday with a mile walk around the bay with DS out of the stroller. My back was killing me the entire day but I felt well enough for a 5mile run on Sunday morning, and it was sup great. It was in the early morning, the air was cooler, and I adjusted my running gait to take some pressure off of my back. Yesterday a 6 mile on the elliptical and some weight, and today 7 miles on the elliptical. I'm hoping to run outside tomorrow morning. Lots of 4am starts to get to the gym so I'll be glad to lie in a bit tomorrow if I'm running from home.

I'm honestly feeling quite hefty, so the exercise helps makes me feel less cumbersome.

I must must must get some yoga in!

I'm so excited to go hiking and canoeing this weekend! My husband and I are heading to Vermont with some good friends of ours for the long weekend and plan to be outside as much as possible. It will be great to get those hiking boots on again. I went to REI a couple of weeks ago and found a pair of very low-riding and adjustable shorts that I think can make work. Isn't it amazing how there are so few maternity options when it comes to workout gear? I always wonder if the designers just think we stay at home on the couch and eat pickles and ice cream for nine months. Not this mama!

In the meantime, though I adore exercising, I'm always so happy when the hour is over because then I can stop feeling like I'm going to throw up! Does anyone else have this happen to them? As soon as I get moving, the acid just moves up into my throat, along with the tiny breakfast I make myself eat before I go. I end up trying to suppress my burps and belches the entire time and have to stop mid-exercise to let the air makes its way to the surface before I can resume. Ha ha! The joy of bringing a new life into the world makes it all worth it, though . . .

Bostonmummy - I agree about the workout clothes. Especially the bra's! They're all designed to squish your boobs in nice and tight, but it hurts my sensitive girls!! Maybe I'm just too sensitive, I'm small chested and was bra-free before being preggo - now wearing something over them is like torture ha ha!

No nausea here while exercising, though sometimes I get a wicked side stitch. Of course everything inside has shifted so the side stitch is totally in the wrong location, but like you, I have to keep stopping- oh the fun :)

Bidding adieu to outdoor runs for the duration of this pregnancy...

It is all of a sudden just. too. hot. Thank goodness for treadmills.

I'm enjoying the stationary bike lately, too, but does anyone else get really uncomfortable in the crotch/tailbone region when riding a stationary bike? I like to ride so that I can squeeze in some reading time while I work out, too, but sitting straight up is pretty uncomfortable and I end up with a numb tailbone.

Delawaremom, glad you're getting your runs in somewhere :) I'm glad to live in Maine as it rarely gets so hot that you can't sneak in an early morning run before the heat builds. I also get a sore crotch on my bike during pregnancy. Do you wear cycling shorts? Anything with padding might help.

I had a good week. A nice 8 mile run on Sunday and 3.5 miles this afternoon with 3.5 miles of walking between this morning and this evening with the family. This afternoon's run was actually not that comfortable but I'm hoping it was more of a fluke than anything as I felt super yesterday. I've signed up for a 10k a week from Saturday, which should be fun. DH is doing it and will push DS in the stroller. I'm also considering signing up for a half marathon in a few weeks. I'll see how a 10 miler goes next week before deciding for good. I'm running with sections of walking, and it helps with comfort and endurance.. but we'll see!

How's everyone else doing?

Just back from a weekend of hiking in the Green Mountains - it was beautiful! I did notice, however, that I was WAY more out of breath than I normally am. Usually I can just truck up those mountains without much need to rest, but I had to keep stopping to catch my breath. It made me feel out of shape - but since I'm doing circuit training 5 days a week I know that's not possible. I guess it's just the increased need for oxygen at this stage. Just so strange to witness it, though, after being so used to my body responding in one way! Oh, well — at least I got onto a few sections of the Appalachian Trail and got to enjoy some of nature's most beautiful scenes!

We got in almost 5 miles of walking yesterday - walked across san francisco and back again. Lots of stopping along the way. Today we got in a short walk - my back felt out of whack from all the sorting I did today, so I didn't want to go too far.

Anyone else's crotch area get sore from lots of walking or standing? I think it's the pubic bones already.

We are tightening our financial belts and so hubby is canceling our CrossFit membership, which was draining us of around $200/month. I understand and am on board with this move, but still, I'm really bummed. I'm not much of a self starter with exercise, and not having a coach/class leaves me unaccountable. :(  At least I still have yoga 3x/week!

I will be checking here more often for ideas/motivation on how to stay fit.

SunnyPerch - do you have kettlebells at home? I have 3 of varying sizes, and I find I can just adapt the workouts from our studio if I use them for a home workout. You can get such an efficient workout with them and avoid long exercise routines. It's a little more motivating to do an intense 25 minute workout at home than trying to get yourself to workout for an hour on your own. But I know how much more fun it is to exercise with others! Good music can help . . . yesterday I couldn't make it to my group class, so I blasted some Johnny Lang on my iPod and felt good enough to keep my workout going for almost 40 minutes!

Yep, we have a set of KBs (5/10/15 lbs I think?). But no bar or anything like that. We have a pull-up bar in the doorway but it's not the kind you can do kippings on, as it may slip. How do you go about planning your own workouts? Do you plan them ahead?
