I had my first appointment yesterday and was a little farther along than i was originally thinking (they said i'm due on halloween, but i'm sure i'll have a november baby) annnny way. i am thinking about announcing on facebook, but i'm a little worried about negative feedback because this is our fifth baby.  did you do anything cute? are you planning anything? please share :)

This is # 4 for us, and I posted on facebook weeks ago...I just looked it up....apparently I was really, really excited because I was only about 5 weeks, LOL! I got only congratulatory remarks from people. I can't imagine anyone on my friend list coming out with something negative to say in public on Facebook. Then again, I would also just ignore them, and they probably all know that.

Not yet. I'm thinking in the next or 2, I might say something. This is #7 for us so I'm not really expecting to be greeted with alot of positive reaction from people.

We put it on Facebook about a week ago (11 weeks).

Hi Ladies! I'm due in November as well (11/11/12) this is my second so I am a bit more relaxed this time around. I'm holding off on announcing our pregnancy on FB, just because I only want close family to know for the next couple of weeks. As of now it's just the g-parents and aunts/uncles who know. We're surprising close friends and family by holding a gender reveal party and then sending out baby shower invitations right after. We'll be flying to my hometown for the baby shower so I want to have it before July (to beat the heat!). Announcing on Facebook is perfectly fine - I am just looking for a more personal response from the people I love most in life! <3 Looking forward to the next 7 months!

We're not putting it on facebook until we find out the gender at the half-way point.  I'm thinking of announcing it with a picture of my girls wearing a big sister and biggest sister t-shirt- and having them hold up a little brother/sister onesie.

We posted this on FB last weekend and got a good response.  I will be 12 weeks tomorrow and we had told some of friends but DH was having trouble keeping track of who so we just made a public announcement.

I didn't announce last time on FB...I guess I'm weird since I'm not really into FB.  Somewhere around 20 weeks a pic of me clearly pregnant made its way to my wall and the reactions were funny, but my friends and family already knew anyways.  I guess I"m old fashioned but I like to tell people personally (even if that's a phone call or an email).

A friend and I were joking though about a FB announcement for me, and thought I could put a photo of my cervix up with a photoshopped sign near it saying "Grand Opening - November 2012" but I didn't want to make people throw up.

You have a photo of your cervix!? Where do you get one of those? smile.gif

I am waiting til 12 weeks, I think. My sister in law posted about it before we did, but we don't have many mutual friends on fb, so not many people saw the announcement, I hope. That kind of annoyed me. We told our families at 9 weeks, but I don't feel like putting it "out there" just yet.

I actually thought it through and figured I'd ask my MW to borrow her speculum for a minute.  A friend of mine went into her yearly pap smear and her OB said her cervix was "picture perfect" and she should consider being a medical student model or something.  Which is where the idea came from...I"m afraid my cervix might be slightly tattered and haggard though.

You all make me laugh!! orngbiggrin.gif

Jodi- Love the pic!! Great idea!

Michelle- The cervix picture? Awesome! Yeah, get the model cervix and call it your own. Of course, how many people would even recognize it, let alone a very nice one?!?! ROTFLMAO.gif

Bemorefarmgirl- Oh, I'd be so annoyed if a family member told the news on FB before I did!

We're going to the midwife tomorrow and as long as we hear our happy healthy heartbeat, I'll make the FB announcement then! I'll be 11w 5d.

We posted on FB right away, I was too excited to wait :) We're a blended family, so my announcement was "Yours, Mine, and Ours, Coming to our family in November 2012".

DP just posted something to the tune of "**passes out cigars**

I never announced on facebook with Pearl. Sometime around 7.5 months I posted some pictures from our vacation and in one of them I was very obviously pregnant. That was about the extent of the 'announcement'. I expect it'll be similar this time. I do plan on telling closer friends after my ultrasound on Thursday, assuming everything looks good.

We had fun with it and announced on April Fool's Day (first appt and u/s was 3/30).   The comments we were getting were great.

A bunch of friends on another forum who are having #4 or 5+ typed up a tongue in cheek FAQ announcement. Something along the lines of:

"The ___ family is thrilled to announce we will be welcoming baby #__ this summer. In anticipation of the responses and questions, we typed up this handy FAQ for your reference."

The FAQ had snarky/humorous responses to questions like "You know what causes this, right?" among other things.

But my point is, it worked. No one said anything negative.

We haven't announced yet, and this is #3 for us and I'm still worried we'll get negative reactions. Ugh.

I think I'm totally going to have to borrow this idea.

I'm waiting till I tell a few more friends in person.  Family already knows, but we always wait till 12 weeks to tell anyone else.  (This time a few found out early so I could ask for midwife recommendations.)  And then we forget to tell people after we decide I'm far enough along, and it just doesn't get out there much until 14 weeks.  I'm sure everyone who sees me regularly knows already 'cause I'm showing a bunch.  But I still want to tell some people the normal way... and that means the Facebook announcement still won't be out there for a little while. ;-)

I'm thinking my Facebook announcement will be something along the lines of "laurac5 is barefoot and..." and just let people fill in the blank themselves.

I love the idea of the "FAQ" for bigger families.  My friend has 6 boys, and when she was pregnant with the last one, she was really upset after receiving a few not-nice comments in person.  They had to send out an "announcement" (and reminder) to some folks that they were in fact pregnant again, this was a WANTED pregnancy, and that unless they had something nice to say, they should just keep their comments to themselves.  I can't think of a person in the world more suited to 6 boys than my beautiful friend.  She runs that household amazingly well, and I admire her and her gorgeous family! :D

We haven't announced on Facebook yet, but I am thinking about doing so in a little over a week. The idea makes me really nervous for some reason.  I've had some losses, so I'm sure that's why, but I will be about 13 weeks by then, so just into my second trimester.  We'll see how I'm feeling then.  I think we're going to try to find a cute way to announce it.  I like the picture idea. :)

I would have had words with her!!!  One of my SIL's is extremely annoying and manages to make all family affairs HER news so I made my husband tell her that we want to announce it on FB, not her.

It worked out that it was only a few days later, I'm now 13 weeks, and she was able to just leave a message.  All positive feedback.  I found it easier than telling people one by one.  Besides news gets out pretty quickly in our town so I was happy to be able to do it myself.  Besides, this belly of mine would have been an announcement in itself!
