Pre-Natal Care and Birth without insurance in San Diego?

Hi All,

Hoping I can get some advice. I'm happily pregnant, but unhappily without maternity insurance (and unable to get any as a self-employed person) so I'm looking for the best options for cash payment pre-natal care and birthing in San Diego. I've called a bunch of places, but am getting overwhelmed (and over-stressed) by not understanding the full costs. Best Start Birthing Center seem to be cheaper overall than chosing an OB & hospital, but UCSD birthing center seems to be (much) more expensive. Unfortuately I don't qualify for MediCal or any of the low-income options.

Is there anyone out there who's paid out of pocket and can recommend the best options? Any personal experiences at the centers would be great too. I really have no idea about any of these places.

Thanks for the info. Sadly I went for an u/s today and found out I'd lost the baby. So, at this point I guess the question solved itself. Very unhappy :(
