Has anyone else been suffering from acne since becoming pregnant? I have broken out pretty badly and feel so gross and unattractive! :( Any tips on how to help diminish breakouts? I've heard it gets better in the 2nd trimester...that better be true!
Yes! Argh! My face is so broken out right now. I use Lush's "Fresh Farmacy" to keep it in check (have always done this for breakouts). Not sure if it's helping this time or not, though. Seems like every morning I wake up to a new pimple on my face! Also on my breasts for some reason.
You're not the only one who feels gross. Thank god for makeup...
My midwife told me that glycolic acid is safe to use for breakouts during pregnancy. I used it before pregnancy too, in 5% or 10% strength. If you have never used it before, I would start with the 5% as it can burn a little. The glycolic acid exfoliates the skin and helps with acne and acne scars. I was so happy to find out I didn't just have to look like a zit face until the pregnancy and breastfeeding were over! ;)
I use Reviva brand because the ingredients are natural and it doesn't contain parabens. I have only used it for my face, but I know it comes in body washes. I would just be careful about what the other ingredients are in some brands.
Reviva 10% Glycolic Acid Cream includes:
Purified water, 10% glycoloic acid polymer (extracts of sugar and rhubarb), extracts of pumpkin, peach, sage, comfrey, chamomile, witch hazel, vitamins A, D and E, safflower oil, sunflower oil.
This is no3 for me and I am already totally disillusioned about the 'glow' LOL So, here are some words of experience for those of you who go through this for the first time:
I used to have horrible skin as a teenager, like really bad acne until I started taking the pill when I was 17 and stayed on it until I was 28... after that my skin got worse every month and climaxed in grossness during my first pregnancy. It was especially bad around my mouth and chin. My skin cleared up around month 6, I think. And stayed great until I got my period back when DS ws 9mo.
Again things got continually worse until I got pregnant with no2, when my skin got even worse until - again - I was well into the second trimester. Skin cleared up and stayed great until my period came back the month dd turned 1yo.
My skin got worse again and I had horrible periods with brain splitting migraines two weeks before AF until: ha! here the pattern brakes. my skin pretty muh cleared up and the migraines seized. Oh, overjoyed happy me! I had a regular period with acceptably clear skin and no migraines WITHOUT being on artificial hormones!
...and then I got pregnant again! Weirdly this time around my face isn'T too bad, but my back/shoulders/upper arms are horrible and here tank-top season has already started :/ anywho, I am surprisingly relaxed about it this time around, because I know: this too shall pass and I even have hope for an acne-free life after without the pill. I seriously considered going back on the pill asap after dd was born but found out I couldn't use the pill I needed as long as I was nursing - and since I still am (nursing dd) I never got to the point of having to decide.
Oh, and btw in case you wondered: absolutely no difference in being pregnant with a girl or a boy in this respect.
