Help me name my baby!!

Oh man!! I am (for the first time ever) having a very hard time naming our baby girl.  With my boys I had girls names picked out Kalea Morgan for DS1 and Aubree Kate for DS2.  DH no longer likes Kalea... So, that one is out.  I really 'feel' like a baby chooses it's own name.  I don't know exactly how to describe it, but I felt it with both my sons.  It seems as though this baby's name is Zoe/Zoey, but am really fighting it because 1. It is so popular and 2. I feel like there are so many more pretty/sophisticated names out there.

I am basically looking for opinions.. Our two options are Zoe Kate (perhaps Zoey Faith) OR Aubree Kate.  I think Aubree is a much prettier name, but it just doesn't seem like her name!  Also, it's meaning kind of sucks - it means "elf or magical being".. We are a strong Christian family and so I really am not into the whole magic thing.  The meaning of Zoe is "Life."

I guess my questions are:

1. What do you think of the name Zoe?

2. How many Zoe's do you know?

3. What is your preferred spelling of Zoe? (Zoë, Zoey, Zoie)

4. Aubree VS Zoe, which do you prefer and why?

TIA!!

1. I like the name Zoe

2. I know one adult named Zoe and one baby on the way

3. I prefer Zoe or Zoey

4. I think I prefer Zoe over Aubree but only by a little.  I like them both.  Aubree has been gaining in popularity as well as Zoe.

If you're that torn, why not just wait? There's no hurry. Just start building a list of names you like and wait until you meet LO to choose. That's what we did with both our girls and sure enough, #1 just was our top pick but #2 didn't fit anything we'd picked out! She took us a week to name.

As for Zoe, I like it a lot. My older DD has two friends named Zoe. I prefer the spelling with the umlaut (not sure how to make it in this format).

Aubrey is nice, but personally I'd spell it with a 'y', the traditional way, rather than with two 'ee' s. Zoe Katharine is very pretty and offers lots of options.

It's so funny that you would recommend Zoe Katharine as both Zoe and Kathryn (this spelling) are my DH's two FAVORITE names!! I know this sounds horrible, but since he is getting his favorite first name, I don't want to give him the middle too...  I do agree that Zoe Kathryn is a bit prettier than Zoe Kate.

As for waiting- well, I plan on waiting until we meet little girl to decide 100%, but it just seems like this LO has chosen Zoe... It's this very strong feeling that comes over me while pregnant.  Like the baby is saying "No mama, THIS is my name..." It's kind of weird, I wont deny that..  I'm just fighting it because Zoe is not my all time favorite name for my first baby girl...

I LOVE Zoe-- it is one of my favorite names and a possibility for us too. I also love Chloe.  I feel like our babies chose their names too.  We are a Christian family as well.  My 1st son's name was chosen while reading the Bible at church and my 2nd son's name just came to us.  We never could think of a girl's name with either boy.  This time around we have a girl's name that we love, but cannot think of a boy's name....(not sure why b/c I really think we are having a boy--- and am completely happy with that- although would love a girl).

I know 2 Zoe's- both are teenagers.  I think it was really popular 10+ yrs ago.

I like Zoe better than Aubree b/c I know a law firm with the name Aubree-- but that is not reason for you not to choose it!!!  :)

I love love love Zoe Kate!!!

Don't have an opinion on the spelling...I like all the spellings!

I've always liked that Zoe means "life."  I probably wouldn't use it myself just because the feel of the name is more cute than pretty to me, and I tend to prefer the pretty names too.

It's interesting that I don't know any Zoes, because you're right that it has been climbing in popularity.  The 2011 data isn't available yet, but in 2010, 6 in every 1000 girls born in the US was either Zoe or Zoey.  They've both been in the top 100 names since 2008, and in 2010 Zoe was 31st and Zoey 47th.  I had a rule that I didn't want a name in the top 50, but ended up choosing a name that was #51 and climbing, and sure enough the year we used it it was in the top 50.  Oh well - we still like the name (and more now since it is our dear son's name).

I perfer the classic spelling Zoe. Zoë is nicer, but I don't even know how to type it outside of MS Word and had to copy and paste yours, so don't expect the diaeresis to actually be used if you choose that spelling.
