I first became interested in Montessori because of family members and friends who have their kids in Montessori schools or assist at Montessori schools. As I started reading more about Montessori, I just felt like it "fit" with how I wanted to raise our child. As silly as it sounds, in the beginning I think the Michael Olaf's "The Joyful Child" was a big influence on me. I knew I wanted our son to have wooden toys (not noisy plastic ones), I didn't want him to sleep in a crib, etc.
We haven't followed the Montessori method 100% in our home 100% of the time, but I'm really glad that we have used it.
I wrote a post on my blog about the Montessori method and why we chose it that you may want to check out: http://ournaturaljourney.com/getting-started/learning-the-montessori-way/
