Yahoo! It's the May thread! That means I can jump in again
smile.gif
I recognize some names from when I was on here before (Hello, again!) and I'm looking forward to "meeting" the rest of you all.

A little refresher on me/us - I'm Kara and my wife is Nicki (I'm on the left in the photo). We tried three times last fall - all at home ICI with frozen sperm. I was a crazy person with all the vitamins, supplements, temping, charting....basically driving myself nuts. We decided to take a break after the 3rd BFN and regroup. Plus it was the holiday season and we went to Hawaii in January. We sort of then came up with a "non plan-plan" which was to wait and see how we felt every month. I was ready last month but Nicki wasn't just yet. So now, here we are, six months later. I am in a MUCH different head space this time. No more temping - just checking cm and really listening to my body. I took these last six months to get to know my body better than I have ever before. I am waaaay more relaxed this time and just ready to get knocked up! Aren't we all?!
winky.gif

So that's where we are! I just o'd last week so we're looking at an insem probably around May 22/23. We are going to try at home again with two vials of frozen. I was going to give up on our dream of doing it at home until DesertSunsets and her DW were successful on their 5th try - that really gave me a huge boost of hope and we decided to keep going for it - at least for a bit.

Can't wait to see all the wonderful May BFP's!!!

Hello,

My name is Jen and this is my first post on this board. I've been following along for some time, but my partner and I will be doing our first insem in May, so I thought I would join in on the discussions :)

Some background: I am from Northern Cal, my partner and I have been together for over 12 years and this will be our first child. So exciting!! We will be doing a monitored cycle and IUI. I have been prescribed Clomid as well as doing a trigger and progesterone (mine is low). I am still up in the air about the clomid, mostly because of the risk of multiples. Anyone have any experience with this? Last cycle I had taken clomid and had an u/s CD12 with 4 mature follicles. That's four possible babies lol. I am thinking of just sticking to the one egg.

MrsPP - I am definitely at the driving myself nuts stage! I am over thinking every little thing, it seems, and have a hard time getting my mind off of the whole thing. If I'm not thinking about babies, I'm thinking about money and budgeting for a baby. It never ends :) Also, I think we're going to insem about the same time. I O'd last week as well.

I look forward to hearing about everyone's journey this month, and wishing for lots of BFPs!!!

Also, I believe I am in the waiting to O stage, though I am still on my a previous cycle, so I hope that's right.

Carmen~ Thanks for the shinny new thread!

MrsPP~ Welcome back...fx'd for your May BFP!

Welcome.gif
TheNewZero~ Hopefully your stay is short and sweet!

AFM~ Not much going on here...I'm taking a break and trying to drop some lbs. We plan on doing our next IVF in July...August at the latest. I actually changed my eating...cut out sweets, and junk food, and joined a local gym about 3 weeks ago. I have been going faithfully 5x a week...and I got on the scale yesterday...I have GAINED 13 lbs....
jaw.gif
. Yeah...needless to say I will be having a sit down with the athletic trainer this week and try to figure out what I am doing wrong. Who knew eating all kinds of junk and sweets and sitting on the couch would be better for me than eating healthy and exercising. I have to laugh about it or I just might cry...

Night all....

gellybeangrl - In preparation for TTC, I did the same thing for about a month, which fell in between dr. appt's so when I went back a month later to weigh myself I expected at least a 5lb drop on the scale... did not happen. Frustrated I gave up and resumed my couch potato, cupcake-lovin ways, and about 2 weeks later (back at the Dr.) got on the scale to find I had finally lost those 5 lbs. All the evidence I needed to see that cupcakes should definitely be part of my daily diet ;)

Hi everyone. Thanks for being thread keeper, Carmen. Right now we are in our TWW and will test on Thursday (12 DPI).

Last Wednesday DW's father passed away. He was in hospice, so we knew it was coming, but it happened so fast. The past few days have been super rough. We drove from Portland to Albuquerque in 24 hours and organized the funeral and held it within two days. The next day we drove to CA, where we are now, to be with DW's nephew and his wife as she gives birth to her third baby. It has been the craziest whirlwind and I'm fairly certain we haven't processed much yet. Thank goodness our bosses are flexible and are letting us take this whole week off too. I'd be lying if I said I didn't hope especially now that she is pregnant. I was afraid to bring it up, but I did anyway and she said she thought the same thing. If she isn't , I'm a little worried how she'll handle it. DW was pretty close with her Dad and yet she has this very tough exterior and rarely shows emotion. I'm praying for extra strength right now to support her where she's at.

MrsPP- Welcome back! I look forward to learning more about you.

Welcome.gif
I am also in Northern California in Oakland. Good luck this month! I hope your stay here is short and sweet. I took Clomid and the first couple cycles I didn't really have more than one follicle so multiples weren't much of a worry. I believe the chance is 10% which isn't too bad.

Carmen, Lisedea -- I'm really, really sorry about your BFN's. I wanted all my cycle buddies to get good news. My fingers are still crossed for both of you.

Cananny--I'm still holding out hope for you. But it sounds like you are in a good place mentally, and taking a break could be very beneficial. Getting healthier is always a good thing.

Gelly - I hope those pounds you gained were muscle! Good luck with the trainer and your new regimen.

Nos - Any word on your DP?

Sotohana - Fingers crossed for you two on Thursday. I'm very sorry to hear about the loss you and DP experienced. TTC is a difficult journey without all the other things that happen in real life. I hope you are both healing soon.

Angela -

invitn - Welcome back aboard the crazy train! I hope this new donor is awesome!

AFM - Sorry I have been MIA. I was in Ohio visiting my family. I wasn't on the internet much, but I checked in periodically to see how y'all are doing. I'm sorry if I missed anyone in my messages. I had a very good visit. I had some nice talks with my Mom and sisters about what's been going on. And I spent a couple days with my Dad and his wife, and I finally told them we are TTC. I was so nervous! But I didn't really need to be. They were very happy and excited. I feel relieved and glad. I got home Saturday night, and we decided to wait until the morning to test so that I could use the FMU. And we got this! I took the first one and saw a faint line. I told DW that a line is a line but I don't think she believed me so I did the digital test too. When we saw that, my wife doubled over and started crying. Then I started crying too. I still don't really believe it, but it may sink in at some point. I took a blood test and got the results today. The beta is 39. It's small but positive. They said I can keep testing for a couple weeks and then do an ultrasound. I'm really happy but cautiously so. I'm very glad I took progesterone this month because I think it gave me a real chance to get pregnant. I may have conceived before but never made it past implantation or so. I felt crampy for a couple days around 10-13 DPO. Turns out that was a good sign. I hope to see more of these soon from the rest of you! Thank you all for being such a great community. I'm not going anywhere for now so I'll be sticking around.

Cupcakes should be part of everyone's diet.

Am following faithfully despite increasingly lurking tendencies. Finishing off the cleaning/garden at our old place (anyone who lives in Van want some plants??), and trying to get our new place finished and unpacked.

Funny about weight loss, I've lost weight during this month because I've been working SO hard with floors and painting and moving and whatever. I'm on a kick to get us to eat more green vegetables. We ate really well for a couple of years, and then we just got so busy that all health and fitness things just fell off the map...

And my god are there a lot of people in the TWW!!! C'mon, one of you needs to get a BFP.... Fx!!

Drive-by posting to let everyone know that you're SUPPOSED to gain a few pounds (around 5) in the first few weeks after you start working out. This is because you're replacing fat with muscle, which weighs more. After the initial five, you should start dropping. If you gain more than that, it's because you're overeating to compensate for the extra calories you're burning. My doctor also told me that weight loss is about 75% diet and 25% exercise. It seems to be working; I've lost 15 pounds in the past 5 months! I only need to lose 5 more to be at my goal.

Pokey: OMG! Congratulations!

Welcome back, mrspp
smile.gif

And welcome to thenewzero! May your stay be short and sweet!

sotohana: I'm sorry for your loss
hug2.gif
Losing a parent is hard even when you are "expecting" it. Take care of each other.

gelly: Thanks for the update - good luck for July! I too have heard that it's very common to gain when when starting a new workout routine...especially if it's aimed at building muscle.

Afm: CD4, very normal AF so far so that's better than last cycle after the m/c. I have an acupuncture appointment this afternoon and will pick up some more herbs. I hope to O around May 12th or so.

#15 ·
Congrats pokey! -- three cheers for the joy and relief that caused your DW to double over and cry!!! That's what all of us are hoping for. Every time we start a new thread, I am reminded that someone "graduates" almost every month, and oftentimes at least two people do. Good luck to us all for this month!!!
grouphug.gif

Belated congrats to mtnlisa, if I haven't said that already!

I'm so sorry, Carmen and lisdea, to hear about your BFNs.

A warm welcome to thenewzero and any other newbies I've missed.

AFM, I am waiting for AF, but you can leave me in waiting to O, because that's the important part! I sat out this month due to travel.

HUGS and good luck everybody ----

#20 ·
Hey everyone...

first off POKEY!!!!!! I am beyond excited for you guys... FX for a sticky bean!!!

AFM...its an official BFN.. I knew but hearing from the RE made me a bit sad .. had a little cry and now here we are... Can I be moved to waiting for AF... I am supposed to be taking a cycle off but RE said to test and see if I might O on my own.. I can not be on any meds this month.. she wants my ovaries to rest.. Not sure we will try this cycle..... I stopped the progesterone so AF should come soon enough~

I am in an ok place.. DP will try at least once more....and we have the fostering stuff happening...and will move on to straight adoption with the county as soon as the fostering stuff is completed.

#21 ·
carmen - Hi! I remember you from the last time around, too
wave.gif
I wish you quick success this time around. Thanks for the new thread.

Cananny - I'm sorry about the BFN. Hugs to you. Congrats on the fostering. I wouldn't worry a bit about having a child of a different race placed with you. He/she will be in a loving home and that is all that matters.

rs11 - Hope you're feeling better! My son and I have been passing colds back and forth for a month and I am SO over it. I feel horrible today
disappointed.gif

mtnlisa - woohoo! Great beta!

kara and thenewzero - Hi! Wishing you both luck this cycle!

Gelly- Hi! Could the weight gain be muscle? Sounds reasonable to me.

sotohana - I'm sorry for your family's loss. Good wishes to your DW.

pokey - Congratulations, Mama!!!!
banana.gif
carrot.gif

AFM - I'm on my estrogen patches and go in Friday (5/4) for an ultrasound and bloodwork. If all is going well, we are planning to do an FET next Thursday (5/10). I hope this blasted cold is gone by then. Argh!

Hi everyone!!

I am new to this board - could you put me on the waiting to know list?

We had our first IUI 6 days ago and of course can't get it off my mind and think I'm having all kinds of symptoms although I know its too early!

I'm sending good luck wishes to everyone here!
blowkiss.gif

Does anyone have suggestions of a type of pregnancy tests to use?

#24 ·
Pokey, so exciting!!! Congrats on your BFP!

Welcome, Wanna! Tell us about yourself!!

Cananny, so sorry about your actual BFN. The fostering stuff sounds really exciting though!! It's nice to have something else exciting to take the edge off not being pregnant.

Cookie, good luck with your bw and ultrasound!

We are on day 4 of trying to move out... We had to dig up our entire garden, which totally sucks... But what are you gonna do? Consequently I've spent the past 2 days in the glorious outdoors, which I love. Not complaining about that!!!

Appointment with RE in the AM!! Yay!!!

#25 ·
Cananny: I'm really sorry about the BFN. *Hugs*

Wannab: Welcome! I hope this cycle works for you two. As far as pregnancy tests go, I've been using the Clear Blue non-digital ones. They detected my beta when it was only 10.

Darth: I'm glad the move is going so well. Playing in the garden is one of my favorite things to do. Good luck with the RE this morning!

AFU: I'm *finally* feeling better. The appointment with the RE yesterday went well. I was back at baseline, so that's good. I started taking the tamoxifen and the shots of Bravelle last night. I do that for 5 nights and then I go back in next Thursday for a check. The RE was going to have me do the shots for longer this time around but since my body is ovulating on its own now he's worried that I'll overstimulate. I've got my fingers crossed for some good quality eggs this month!

#26 ·
Hi again!

Darth - good luck with your appointment today!

Gosh if this cycle works for me I feel like it would be a miracle! I am encouraged by all your courageous efforts and the strength to keep trying. Just experiencing one try is wearing on me!

About me: I am 27 and live in NC with my "wife" (we had a ceremony with our families but its not legal here in NC) and we've been together 4 years now. We have been talking about babies for years and I'm happy we're finally on the road to making that dream come true!

We found a sperm donor through fairfax cryobank and chose the identity release option so that our child would know the basic info about her dad when he/she is 18. Oh and our fertility clinic only uses Fairfax and California cryobank which I thought was interesting.

So we went in for the first IUI a week ago today, and were saddened to hear that our first sample was below standards so we they didnt recommend that we use it. It only had 19% good swimmers is the way she explained it to us, and she said she had only seen that 2 times before in the past few years
shake.gif
but luckily we had another sample which she was able to prepare that day and we went ahead with the procedure. That sample, from the same donor, had 91% good swimmers! So just hoping and praying now that one of them made it!

I haven't decided when to test yet. I think I'm going to hold out as long as I can. My concern is a false positive test. Has anyone experienced this? I would hate to get excited only to be really disappointed in a few days.

I have heard pregnancy tests are much cheaper on Amazon than in the drugstore so I might look around today. Maybe with the shipping time I would be able to hold out longer.

Good luck to everyone in any stage of the process!
