Rash after fever subsided - help

Hi

DD 3 yrs old had a 'flu for almost 6 days 4 days back where she kept having high fevers and needed Ibuprofen.

Around the 6th day her fevers subsided but some parts of her body are covered with tiny pin-prick size bumps which are flesh-colored (almost like goose bumps) and some of them are itchy.

Can anyone shed light on this please?

It's likely a viral rash. I've seen this many times over the years in my 5 dc. Sometimes it comes with the flu or strep or just out of the blue with a fever.

It doesn't last long, always at the tail end of an illness.

My DS had the same a few weeks ago.  We put the Aveeno oatmeal stuff in his baths and also rubbed CJs Butter on it.  I don't know if the CJs actually helped the rash at all, but it made him feel better.

I think you can use any anti itch you're comfortable with. I don't recall what I used, it's been some time since our last viral rash.

If you search up Roseola, is that what it looks like? My son had Roseola, happens right after a fever, but is harmless. I don't remember my son itching though. He was too young at the time to tell me.

The rash went away after a couple days, it was on his back, tummy, neck and by his ears too.

Hope your DC gets some relief!

Are you selectively or delaying vaccination? Has your child had MMR or Varicella vaccine in the last month?

It could be an adverse event.

As mentioned by PP, Roseola rash also occurs after the fever subsides.

Selectively vax and on a delayed schedule yes but she hasn't had any vaxes in the last 4 or so months.

We went to her ped today.. he said he thought it was a post-viral rash and said he wasn't worried about it at all.. and it seemed even less conspicuous today at her ped's office... so I guess that's that .

Hopefully it will just fade away.

Did the doctor mention reporting the event to VAERS?

Why would they report to VAERS? OP said her dd hasn't been vaxed in 4 months or so.

Actually I checked - DD hasn't had a vax in 6 months.... I don't think any of it is vax related.

I had a 'duh' moment yesterday night. I think I can describe the rash better (if not be 100% sure that that is what it is).

It looks like 'prickly heat'

I kept thinking about what it seemed like and description escaped me earlier. Could it have been prickly heat? This particular episode - even though the recommendation is to keep fewer clothes on feverish patients- we wrapped up DD in lots of warm clothes because she was also experiencing chills occasionally. 

So either it is really prickly heat or - redundantly- some post viral rash....

Can prickly heat occur on back of hands too? Anyway.. it is drying and sloughing off....

I read the reply below so asked about a VAERS report, since there is not a required post vaccinal timeframe just to report a possible event. (Perhaps OP meant 'rash' ?) Regardless, glad the little one is well, and no longer feeling ill.

I am so sorry..yes I meant post-viral rash (brain has been rather befuddled these past so many days).
