My husband and I had the shock of a lifetime last Friday when we went in for a routine checkup/ doppler. The midwife thought she heard two heartbeats, and was able to schedule us for an ultrasound later that day. Yep, two little ones. I'm excited, but also scared to death. I've been having some problems coming to terms with motherhood, anyway, mostly because I have had 24/7 nausea this entire pregnancy, and we are also moving in July. A lot of life changes at one time (some other family stuff/pet stuff going on too). My husband got a new and better job, which is great, as it will allow me to stay home with the babies (which is what I was hoping for), and it's good for his career. But I will also be without any support system for the first time in my life (I will be 41 on the 19th of this month, and have always lived in the same city). Luckily we will only be 3 hours away from my hometown, so it's not THAT bad. I'm hoping my mom is able to come down for a bit when the babies are born. And we plan on having a labor doula and postpartum, if possible. But I'm still so overwhelmed. One year ago we weren't even sure if we were going to have children and now...twins!! The thought of eventually being home alone all day with them is kind of terrifying. Would love to hear how you other twin mamas are handling the news.
Anyone else having twins?
Hi siddal, I'm having twins too! There are three of us (counting you!) in the DDC so far, I think...anyone else out there? If you scroll down a bit in the discussions you'll see a thread called "Multiples" where we are chatting. I can completely understand your apprehension - I can tell you mine turned into utter bliss within a few days and I hope the same will happen for you. (Somewhat different situation for us though, we want 3-4 kiddos and were battling secondary infertility for 2.5 years to get pg. And there is nothing wrong if it takes longer to feel at peace with it, I think that it totally normal too.) I highly recommend the multiples forum, it is filled with awesome moms and advice.
Hi Siddal! I'm a twin mama too! :)
I found out the same way you did - at my 16 week appointment. I'm 19 weeks now... even after 3 weeks, it still hasn't completely sunk in. I have a 2.5 year old, so although not my first pregnancy, in a lot of ways - it feels like it.
As I start to get my head around this, I'm feeling more at peace, and getting excited for our little ones to come join us earthside.
Do you know if your twins are mono/mono, di/di...?
Ours are mono/di - identical... and we aren't finding out the gender... another surprise (heh, gluttons for punishment).
How exciting that there are 3 of us!!
