ascher21, your quilt is lovely! i find myself alternating between super simple quilts and more complicated ones - the complicated ones always make me feet determined and a little stubborn (but proud when i'm finished), and the simple ones always just make me feel comfy.

I love the quilt Ascher!  It is beautiful.

we're a pretty crafty family...well, I am and so be default DS too cause he helps a lot.  lol  DH not so much.

But, i do a lot of knitting and sewing.  DS wants to make a quilt for the baby, we have the fabric and plans written out, we just need to rip and sew.

I've got lots of soakers and some longies.  I have enough of a CD stash that I dont need to make diapers.  It is cheaper to buy baby clothes from goodwill then it is to make them.  which is fine by me.

Oh i'm making new carriers for this one too.  :)  new sling and probably a new MT.  although I hardley used the other one, but this way i'll have 2.  :)

i have pics on FB of some of the knitted projects.  Can I put 'em on here?  anyone know?

I love to see what other people have made.

Just more diapers:

On the left is a Very Baby One Size fitted diaper (looks bulky to me... I'm not usually a fan of one-size diapers anyway since my babies tend to not get super chunky, but I needed more medium fitteds anyway... this should be a good small/medium diaper I think). And on the right is a small Fattycakes pocket diaper.  Butter yellow PUL and pale blue microfleece inner.  I made another one of these too (so, two small yellow pocket diapers).  And then some purple velour wipes since I discovered I had a lot of purple velour and haven't been using it!

My serger is in the shop right now being cleaned and such.  The tension was way off (which I discovered after going to make dd4 some more undies) and it had been a couple years since it was last serviced anyway.  I should take in my sewing machine too, but I couldn't bear the thought of being without BOTH of my machines!!

Thanks for the compliments, ladies! Judybean--I just got together my snaps, flannel, aplix, PUL, and FOE. Just curious your opinion. I am planning on making fitteds out of flannel with a snap-down for the umbilical cord. How do you handle the umbilical cord on the cover? Do you cut down to make a lower-rise cover? Do you find the bulk from the button-down on the flannel to be difficult with the cover? I'm a FTM so I don't have a clue.

I envy all you ladies for bringing up the energy to sew :). I thought now for sure that I have the time and energy and willpower to sew but nahhh...can't get myself to get the sewing machine out. I will make some wipes but I don't know what fabric is best. Plus my wipes will never look as good as @Judybean's. mine will be all crooked and stuff, so no picture here later LOL. So...would fleece or flannel work? I guess it would huh?

After lots of trial and error/ asking tons of people/ research...I think I've made some fitted diapers that will work nicely for newborn. This is made from the darling diapers free NB download. I made the larger size, though I'm considering making some smaller ones. Not sure, yet. I was small, and my husband was 6 lbs. 12 oz, so it seems we might have a smaller baby. Anyway, the outer is 100% cotton flannel, the inner is 100% Organic Cotton flannel (softer and doesn't pill as much). The sewn-in insert is 2 layers of regular ol' terry. I'll add more doublers/wipes if I need to. I decided on velcro. I made one with snaps and didn't like it as much. I made laundry tabs so the velcro doesn't get all linty, and I added a snap-down for the umbilicial cord. I only wish I knew if these will fit my newborn, it seems to be 50/50 from other opinions on the web...some prefer the smaller, some prefer the larger DDNB pattern. With a good-fitting cover, I don't think it will matter so much either way.

go for flannel

katt: in what sense? Do you mean I should use it in the insert as well? I used it on the outside and inside.

For wipes I just take two pieces of flannel, 8x8 and serge around the edges and voila!  a wipe.

You could turn and top-stitch as well.  In that case I'd cut out 8.5x8.5 for seam allowance.

Wipes don't have to be fancy, just effective.  well, and cute.

Takes a few washings to be absorbant.  like CD's leave out the fabric softener.

oh, yeah! I have a bunch made already. I found a cool video that shows how to fold them so they can pop right out of a recycled disposables box! I also paired the flannel with terry to make a few wash cloths!

I'm in awe of these handcrafted treasures!! Lucky babies!

Well, I made my very first diaper. SO knows how to sew and he's helping me learn. He's working on the one size covers because we're investing more money in those (as opposed to using thrift store sheets and towels and such for the diapers). We can't figure out how to put in a traditional gusset on a cover without using FOE.

Here's the first cover SO made. It needs the snaps to adjust the rise, but is otherwise complete.

I'm not nearly as talented as everyone else on the thread! (I use my sewing machine a few times a year to make small repairs to clothes ... and I can crochet things that are rectangular!) But I'm proud of this baby blanket I made for a friend's shower. I put it in with a boppy smile.gif

You should be proud. As someone who can neither knit nor crochet, I would totally treasure that!

wow, never thought to actually sew diapers..... loving the ones here!

I knit.  You can see my baby knits on ravelry, I am: mamauk

It would be a total overload if I tried to photograph everything and put them here, here's a couple of bits, from soakers to sweaters:

For wipes in the past I have just cut up flannel receiving blankets. no sewing or anything. after 1 or 2 washes they stop unraveling, and I don't mind the frayed edges at all.
