I took my DD to my first appointment. She was as good as a toddler can be, but was still all over the place. It's hard to be a patient and Mama. DH can't come to every appt with me. Any tips?
Toddler moms or BTDT: what do you do with your kids during appts?
Well my older (5 & 3) were home today with my husband but I took the 14 month old.
Luckily he's very shy and did not wander at all from my lap or my side. I've held him while I had a vaginal US earlier on. Good times.
I try to bring him an awesome snack and a smoothie and as soon as the appointment (or ultrasound) begins, I give it to him.
When I had my nuchal fold US, I brought my stroller and as soon as I got called in, I wheeled him in with a smoothie and a snack and sat him in the stroller...he did not make one sound the whole time.

DS and DH came to my first appointment last week and DH basically spent the visit containing DS in our midwife's awesome house. Awesome to a 20 mo at least! So I'm in the process of finding a babysitter. I sure can't focus on the midwife and DS at the appointment!
We have lots of extended family around so DS has always stayed with a family member when DH and I go out. Unfortunetly most of them work during the day or are on the opposite side of town of my midwife. I thought I'd found someone to watch DS but after thinking it over and talking to a couple of friends that use her, I decided she might not be right. DS is one of the most active and curious kids I've ever met and I really can't take my eyes off of him for a minute. I don't think the person I found would be able to do that and her house would certainly get thoroughly "explored" by my kiddo, even though she's been babysitting for years. Most baby-proofed houses aren't safe enough for my kid. And DS has a new skill: opening the fridge!!
Soooo, to answer your question: I'm going to ask our neighbor girl to watch DS in our house on appointment mornings. That or my sister will drive out here and watch him. People prefer babysitting him here, apparently it is easier.
Yeah, my sweet little boy CANNOT come to my appointments... Mama would have a stress attack!
my parents arent available for so if my brother is working she will come with us. The rest my parents should be free. As a last resort I will take her with me and hope she will be happy with a video on the iPhone.
DD is 17 months and cried when she heard the heartbeat on the doppler. I guess the sudden loud sound scared her. I spent the rest of the appt snuggling with her on the exam table as the mw checked me out!
Good call on the smoothie. My daughter can be bribed with snacks also...hm.
I have my first appt. on Wednesday and have no one to watch my 15 month old, so he's coming with me. That's a great idea with the smoothie! He loves them and it will hopefully keep him calm & quiet for a little while.
other times, I'm hoping to schedule times for when my mother can watch him.
I've been wondering about this too. I'm quite afraid to bring my two crazy, active 2 year olds to any appt. and now it seems like we'll be having ultrasounds at every appt. Ahhh...that just makes it 10x harder. Don't trust my dad to have them to himself. Thankfully, I work at my office and everyone would love to see my girls! My DH would love to come to as many appts as possible, but he likely won't make them all. Our next appt is a 7:20am u/s...maybe my sister would wake up early for that one?!
I just had my NT scan yesterday and had to take my 21month old with me. It was just the two of us. I agree, the stroller and a snack is the way to go. I let her walk around the waiting room but once we were called back to our u/s room, I strapped her in her stroller and gave her a snack and she didn't make a sound the whole time. It was perfect.
