Finding a birth photographer

I'm toying with the idea of having a birth photographer, but I'm unexpectedly finding it difficult to locate even one locally!

I've asked my midwife's office but they couldn't make any specific recommendations, where else could I look for one?

I don't just want someone present and snapping random pictures, I would like an artistic view of the whole experience :)

I would look for local photographers whose work you like.  Most people have galleries or blogs no so you can see their work.  If you like their work but they don't have specific birth photos posted I would just call and talk to them.

I am a photographer and I agree with the previous poster.  Do a search online for local photographers in your area, and see if you can contact them about your specific needs.  Even if they don't list it as a service, chances are one or more of them would be more than willing to photograph your birth. :)
