Mama Cloth for Spotting and Postpartum

Thread Starter

So, I am thinking about getting some mama cloth for spotting and postpartum. Any suggestions? Particularly because I'm using it for postpartum spotting, I really think I'd like something bleached (yeah, I know - not as good for the environment, but it's better than disposable pads). Any suggestions? I used gladrags in the past, and I hated them - they felt too rough. I don't want anything too spendy - I probably won't use it for periods or what-not: I love my keeper. But these disposable pads irritate my vulva. Any suggestions?

I really like 100% cotton flannel. It's really comfortable. Mine were purchased locally and I don't think she makes them anymore. The microfiber is nice for absorption, but they aren't as good overall in my experience.

I wonder if you could find some on etsy? Or do you sew? There is a good pattern in one of the Amanda Blake Soule books (and probably more free patterns online too).

These are my current favorite pads:  http://www.etsy.com/shop/epicerma?ref=seller_info  But I don't know that you'd like them if you didn't like Gladrags.  I hate Gladrags because the way they are shaped doesn't work well for me - these are much better.  But they are a similar material, I guess.  I don't like microfiber or fleece next to my skin, but there are lots of various fabrics out there on Etsy I'm sure.

Are GladRags flannel? I can't exactly tell from their website, and I've never seen them in real life.

yeah, gladrags are flannel. etsy and ebay are great for finding mama cloth, or if you sew it is really easy to make your own with whatever fabric you like. i'm no expert sewer but i have started making some. i'll try to find the link for the site i got patterns from.

innocent.gif silly question but... How so they stay on/in your underwear? Have never used them before, but had just ordered a keeper when I found out we were preg, so very interested in being more Eco kind after bub

mamadiamond - Thanks, I'm not very hip on the different brands. wink1.gif I just found some locally that I liked, and since they last for years and years it's not like I've had to shop around. I'd love to see what links you've come across and liked. I'd like to make some more for after the baby's born.

travelmumma - In my experience, cloth pads usually have some sort of fastener like a metal or plastic snap on the wings, and they fasten on the outside of the underwear's crotch (for lack of a fancier term). I'm sure there are probably other ways to fasten them too, that's just the types I've used. I've never had much of a problem of them slipping around.

My only suggestion would be to get specifically postpartum pads to make sure you don't have to change it every half hour, especially since you're not going to use them for regular periods. There are many on etsy that use different fabrics. I can't recommend one because I don't mind gladrags.

I'm not sure what you mean by bleached. Do you mean you want bleached white cloth?
