Just minutes after my daughter was born in 1984, she latched on to nurse for the first time. Her older brother, almost 3, nursed on the other side and held her hand. They have always been extremely close.

After 16 weeks of painfully nursing due to a posterior tongue tie, vasospasams, and 4 battles with mastitis including and baseball size abscess, I was AND still am able to nurse my baby blissfully. This is the most empowering thing I have ever accomplished. Lulu and I.

Just minutes after my daughter's birth in 1984, her brother, almost 3, joined us to nurse alongside his new sister and to hold her hand.  They have always been extremely close.

I have very few pictures of me breastfeeding my first because while my immediate family was very supportive, some of our friends were not and made me self conscious about it.

I have very few pictures of me nursing my firstborn.  While my family was very supportive, some of our friends were uncomfortable with it and that made me self conscious about it.  I was a nervous new mom...

nursing newborn Joe while on a zoo outing with big brother Nate (22mos).

I gained confidence with my second child.  Here we are on an outing to the zoo.

Christine (my third baby) nursing at 23mos... weaned herself just a few short weeks later.

My baby girl nursed the longest of my three kiddos.  Here she is kicking me in the face while nursing at the age of 23mos.  She weaned herself a couple of short weeks later.  I miss it already!
