Snack Ideas

Thread Starter

I have an 18m old daughter who doesnt have many teeth. [she has the front 4 on top front 4 on bottom, and 3 molars]

I have no idea what kind of snacks I could give her that wont be difficult for her to eat. She is bored of the same things and always wants new things. Im afraid to give her anything to hard, because I dont want her to choke.

any ideas or suggestions???

Thank You

Soft fruits (at this time of year - apricots, peaches, de-stoned cherries)

Soft veggies (avocado, cooked broccoli or asparagus - cook until soft but not mushy, halved cherry tomatoes)

Egg (scrambled, over hard, hard-boiled)

Ground meat (hamburger, sausage - any meat that has been ground prior to cooking doesn't need a whole lot of chewing)

Soft meat (something like pulled pork or poached chicken where the meat is super tender)

Beans (overcook them slightly so they're really soft)

Cheese (cut it into cubes or small "sticks")

Obvious things to avoid - anything really crunchy like a carrot stick.  But crunchy stuff like a pretzel or a cracker may work for her, since it will go soft after a minute in her mouth.  Anything really chewy like a piece of steak that needs to be chewed well.  Nuts, again they require too much chewing.  You'd be amazed at how much damage those bare gums can do to food - just skip the harder-to-eat stuff and she should be fine.

some of our favorite youngling snacks that might not be obvious choices:

olives

pickles

celery (might surprise you how much she can eat without lots of teeth - plus it's very juicy & numbing to the gums, if teething)

roasted seaweed snacks

tortillas with simple spread (can get toasted too - we like cream cheese or butter & cinnamon sugar)

yogurt frozen in ice cube tray (can blend with fruit/jam for more flavor)

apple sauce

yoghurt

soup chunks

raspberries
