mirena anyone? « Back to Group Discussions

so i'm trying to decide on what to do about birth control.  i typically don't handle hormonal birth control very well, and we've only used barrier methods for the past 7 years or so.  that said, the barrier methods are a bit cumbersome and have a tendency to spoil the mood, so i'm considering trying an IUD.  it will certainly be a few years before we'd even remotely consider another baby, so i like the idea of not being able to forget a pill, or get caught up in the moment and not use a condom/diaphragm appropriately, and ending up with a surprise! 

so my question is, has anyone used the mirena or the paraguard and what was your experience? thanks!

I'm in the same boat. I was looking over in family planning. Not sure what to do??

i don't know either, the reviews don't seem very enticing over in family planning, but i need something for birth control... i think i've realized that i will probably want more babies, but no time soon, so the long term benefit is really enticing...

I'm thinking of maybe the "mini-pill" I'm not sure why. Maybe because it could be a starting point or maybe condoms? I feel lost. Mostly because we did the NFP thing and had a BIG BIG Surprise. SSSOOOO when I go to see the MW I'm going to talk about all of this.

apparently mirena has a lower dose of hormones than the pill... i told my mw that i dont usually tolerate hormonal bc well and she suggested paraguard or mirena... i'm lost myself.  we did nfp for a while, but it was a bit taxing for me, and i'm not prepared for a surprise right now... when we did nfp, we were trying to avoid pregnancy, but we knew we'd be ok if we got pregnant.  right now, that's just not the case, so i'm looking for something a little more aggressive
