Where in the house are you birthing?

Curious....where in your house are you planning on birthing (if you're planning a homebirth)?

I had envisionned being in the family room (which opens to the kitchen and dining room...it's all one open space). Our new home will be a split-level (?) house...you walk in and you can go 5 steps up or 5 steps down to a shallow and finished basement.

I'll talk it over with my MW once we're settled, but I'm debating between upstairs living room with hardwood, kitchen, bath, and bedroom fairly close or basement with carpet and half-bath (toilet and sink). On one hand the basement seems slightly more private, but I'm only going to have DH, DS, and the MWs there anyway. I really don't see birthing in the bedroom....perhaps because most of them (of 3) are too small for the bed and tub and a few bodies to move freely.

I plan on being in my bedroom.  There is no bathroom on the main floor of my house so I think I sort of need to be upstairs.

Kitchen, it's the perfect spot for the birth tub. we turned off all the lights and just had candles lit.

That sounds lovely. Will you have a matress/bed/futon near by or just make your way to your bed when you're done?

i took a shower after (where i birthed the placenta) then hung out on the couch.

Last time I ended up having my baby in the kids playroom lol This time I'm hoping to do it in the living room but it really doesn't matter, the baby will pop out wherever it decides to. I assume I will labor in the living room but I may end up in the playroom again because we are moving our beds in there in a couple of weeks so I can babymoon on the main floor of the house. I'm a land birther so I just go where I feel comfy.

My four home births were all in my bedroom. Other rooms felt far too public.

Last time I thought I would have the baby in the kitchen- and am still open to that- but delivered him on the living room floor- which was great because I could then get comfy on the couch....  I think I will stick with that.  Our bedroom is upstairs and I would hate for anyone to have to go up and down stairs since the bathroom is downstairs...  Plus- I don't like to labor laying or on bed...  I decided to skip a birth pool since last time we never even got around to blowing it up- if I decide to I will just use the bathtub.  (actually DH was never really loving the idea of a pool- so he told me I could have it or a couple sets of new lanacare wool nursing pads- well I love the lana ones- so the deal was struck- he usually make more sense than I do- cruddy old house with weak floor joists- not ideal for a birth pool and extra people :)

DH loved the pool, he was in there with me the whole time lol

Most likely my bedroom.  that is where my daughter was born.  i labored the first few hours around the house and then in my rocking chair once the contractions got more intense.

Our nicely finished basement. I'll have a birth tub, bathroom and bedroom available down there - I think it will be a very nice setting. With my DS I planned to give birth in our bedroom but ended up in the bathroom - which was really tiny.

My dh built a new deck off the back of our house for Mother's Day we named "the birth deck".  It's very private - I'm thinking of having the tub and a rocking chair out there and if the baby comes under the stars that would just be awesome!  Our last home birth was in our living room in front of our fireplace.  My midwife actually suggested that we think of a different place to birth to make it unique. I guess we will see what happens!
