Our DDC Avatar « Back to Group Discussions

I am just going to say it: when I first saw our avatar I thought it was a toasted english muffin with a pat of butter melting over it.

Puzzled as to why our avatar was food, I took a closer look and, of course, discovered it was November's birthstone, the topaz. Did anyone else mistake our avatar for something else? Please tell me yes!

I thought it was fall leaves until I saw that the icons for the other DDCs are all gemstones :)

Anyone can change it. I just made something quickly because we didn't have anything!

Ack! I wasn't nitpicking or anything. I just was a little confused at first as to why our avatar was an english muffin. I couldn't make the connection between having a baby in November with an english muffin. Once I realized what it really was, I was all good.

The only reason I even posted about it at all was because the other MDC ddc's I've been in have been WAY more active (sadly, like the rest of the board in general), and I was very hopeful my ridiculous vision would contribute to a more active DDC.

See, that's what threw me! When our DDC first popped up, the other DDC avatars were some variation of a pregnant woman doing something maternal or various baby paraphenelia, no gemstones. So a toasted english muffin with butter melting over it didn't make any sense AT ALL!!! It didn't fit with the other avatars and it certainly wasn't really pregnancy related.

great, now I really want an english muffin. no idea what exactly that is, but it sounds grrreat!
 

ETA: my first ddc was way more active too - I'm still in touch with about 20 mamas from back then... sadly didn't get much of a connection with my second ddc either, even though I participated in a birth bead swap. hmmm, maybe things will pick up soon?

I feel like MDC changed once the format changed a year or so ago.

My DDC with my second son was very active.  Mine last year was fairly active but not as much as the one before.

Nothing against the women in this board, peoeple here are great, I think there are just a lot fewer members. 

And a lot of really really new members posting in the main pregnancy board... "how can I induce labor at 37 weeks?" kind of posts.

Maybe we could start a chat thread or something?

A lot of other boards I'm on have slowed down recently, too. I wonder if people are just migrating away from bbs these days?  If so, that's kind of sad....

I do agree that this DDC seems quiet.  I often come back to check every couple of days and am either sad that there isn't a lot of new posts or giddy when a new one pops up.  Maybe it's just the first trimester woes of nausea & such that is keeping people quiet.  Second tri will hopefully get busier!

I agree that MDC has become more mainstream. I second the ridiculous posts thing as well. Chat thread sounds good!

Same reaction here too! I do think the first trimester tends to be slower for posts. I have been on here tons, but sometimes I just do not have the energy to post anything.

Maybe I am the only one, but I have felt that a lot of mama's aren't responding to other people in general.  It's mostly about ourselves and not anything to encourage conversations.  Does that make sense?

I totally get what you're saying and I have been guilty of that. I have been feeling pretty chatty lately, but I hate seeing the top 5-7 posts ending with my name and staying that way for days on end.
