Hi all...I've been missing in action for some time. Honestly, I just get too busy to get online! So, it seems this pregnancy is just one long line of misery. Vomiting all day for 14 weeks, followed by sciatica pain so bad I was dragging my right leg (chiro, hip openers and a brace helped that), then my ever growing diastasis which requires a full time brace from breast to hip, non-stop charley horse cramps at night, gestational carpal tunnel and NOW: PUPPP-- a crazy itchy rash all over my belly. It's been a few days and it is spreading and of course the itch is getting worse. I've read a few things "help" it, but nothing cures it. I'm drinking lemon water & using calamine and tomorrow after my midwife visit I'm going to get the Grandpa's Tar Soap. I want to avoid all steroids, even steroid creams since I just don't like the thought of using that while pregnant (I've heard it affects breast-milk production among other things). Also, the rash means that I'm not wearing my brace anymore...not happy about that, but I am literally scratching non-stop and the brace makes it 1000% worse. I'm also feeling sad and I really wanted a girl and though we haven't found out it seems that 70% of women w/PUPPP have boys. I know many of you won't understand why I would be upset about a boy, but I grew up with a severely autistic brother, so that's pretty much what boy translates to for me and it is scary. I just really wanted another daughter....so, I'm feeling pretty low. I'm at 33W 2D and can't believe I have another 6-7 weeks to go. Is anyone else experiencing PUPPP? If so, what are you doing?
PUPPPS Rash over here--anyone else?
I know this is old, but wanted to post in case there were other mamas suffering... I had this when pregnant with my DS, so I know how horribly uncomfortable it is. I would wake up scratching myself in the middle of the night, and wearing most clothing was just torture. I had it on my belly, upper thighs, hands, and lower arms. I swear I tried every remedy out there. I took dandelion root, plus slathered on every lotion and potion out there. I found that a baking soda/water past helped a lot. It was flaky and messy, but it did take the itch away temporarily. I think I went through a box of baking soda in my last month of pregnancy... Sarna lotion also really made a difference. I absolutely HATE the way it smells now, but at the time, it seemed like it had been delivered straight from heaven. It has camphor in it, so it cooled and numbed the itch temporarily, which was usually enough for me to get back to sleep. It seems like the more you scratch, the better it feels, but the more it itches!!
It took about a week for it to go away after birth. I'd really been hoping for an instantaneous cure, but it took some time to fade away.
I'm sorry you're having such a rough pregnancy. All of my pregnancies have been really uncomfortable, too. I'm also sorry you're having difficulty adjusting to the idea of a boy. You do have valid reasons for being scared, though, and it's really understandable that you feel that way. I don't have any advice on that front, but I do hope it gets easier for you.
I have PUPPPS, too! My naturopath told me to start taking 15 drops of each milk thistle and dandelion root tinctures 3-4 times a day and to use some calendula cream on my belly. After only about 4 days, it's already starting to clear up and give me some relief. I also notice that if I wash my belly 3-4 times a day and then put fresh belly oil on, that helps reduce the itching, too. Putting more oil or calendula cream on top of the old always makes it itch worse. I've also noticed that using lotions, no matter how natural and pure irritated the rash, but the oil (I use the Earth Mama Angel Baby one) actually helps reduce the itch.
