I have not been on MDC for a long time but I could use some support.

I am 38 and have two kids (13 and almost 9). I am divorced and a single co-parent.

I just found out that I am pregnant. About 6 weeks. The person who is the father is a long time friend/lover but he will not be interested in coparenting with me.

I don't know what to do. I have a great family that will support me, including an older sister that I called and spoke to. She owns a daycare and has offered free/low cost daycare (she said free, but I wouldn't want to do that). I have a great job and could provide for a baby. But doing it alone feels so alone. IYKWIM.

I am so confused.

Help.

First of all

I can't offer words of advice, as I have not been pregnant with a new 'baby daddy', but I can say that although you feel lonely you definitely seem to have great conditions for having this baby and are already a pro in being a single parent. And just as this unexpected baby came along, so can many other unexpected things happen in your life, and one day you will not be alone.

It is definitely huge news and I think feeling overwhelmed/shocked is totally normal, I mean, another baby and everything - it's life-changeing!

Wowsers.  You must be really anxious about it all.  I remember your username from way back. 

Are you wanting to continue the pregnancy? 

Of course, you CAN do it.  I imagine it's like riding a bike--you never really forget how to be a mother to a baby; it's your roots, after all.  I found being a single mother to be the most difficult and the most fulfilling role I've ever played. Good luck to you; I hope you find some peace about the situation.

Congratulations! Give yourself the space to feel how you feel about it without shame sometimes you have to go through the difficult feelings to come out the other side. That said- I think there are some beautiful aspects about parenting solo.

It can be done....I don't know tou but I think you can do it. Take whatever help is offered and give back as soon as you can...everyone needa help sometimes...even two parent familes or ones who are pregnant in great circumstances.

It's not easy. But I found it easier than with my ex who was abusive and who made it harder to be a mom with an infant.  I also found myself to be pregnant as a single mother (who already had kids) and it does put parts of your life on hold. But my little one has proven over and over and over to be an amazing blessing. Accept help where you can, put your foot down where you need to and enjoy as often as possible and try not to get bogged down by the stresses involved.

I found out I was pregnant when my then only son was 15 years old.  I was in the middle of a divorce and leaving an abusive relationship and had been previously been told that I was most likely infertile.  I won't lie to you and tell you it's been easy... bu my little son is one of the best things that's ever happened to me.
