must have surgery...

DS turns two in 10 days, so it's not like he needs the milk to survive.  But the poor dude nurses a lot.  Nurses to sleep, and in the middle of the night, and in the morn and throughout the day.

I'm having surgery in 2 weeks.  I'll be away from him overnight, and he won't be able to nurse for 24 hours.

Has anyone BTDT?  Any advice?

Thanks mamas.

I had my tonsils out when my LO was 17 months old. I was in hospital overnight. DH brought her in to visit about an hour after I got back to the ward and she had a brief feed then but was really too distracted to have much. She had a bit of an unsettled night as I usually feed her whenever she wakes overnight but she wasn't hysterical or anything. A bit teary and it took DH 30mins or so to resettle her each time.

When I got home the next day we just got back to our normal routine.

Is the 24 hour time frame because you have to be apart for that long, or because someone has told you that you can't nurse after surgery because of the medication?

If at all possible I'd try to do what Katelove did, and nurse in the hospital before and after surgery. This will be good for your little one, and also for you - you do not want mastitis or engorgement after surgery! And I can't imagine trying to pump after surgery either.

hug2.gifgood luck!

Thanks, PatioGardener--that's encouraging!

Once we get through the night we'll have to deal with trying to get him not to crawl all over my healing pelvis...but, one thing at a time, eh?
