Last day of school for anyone else today?

Last year I posted a few times about issues with school.  Today I have a happy post...(sorry if it is a little obnoxious to be so happy.)

It is my children's last day of school today (2nd grade).  They teared up on the way to school because they do not want it to be over.  (I'm sure they will be thrilled and excited once they get home tonight.  Plus we're getting together with their class next Friday to go for a morning hike. That made them less sad about today.)   We had such a wonderful year; but it went by so quickly.  I am so happy that they could experience this.  Last year was sometimes alright and sometimes horrible.  Having a year with one day of crying - on the last day - rather than days of crying throughout the year, made our entire life better (inside and outside of school).  Having happy mornings and stress-free evenings this year was wonderful.  No school is perfect and I know it can change year-to-year, but I would be thrilled if they have more great school years and wonderful teachers like they had this year.

I'm so glad to hear you had such a wonderful year!

We still have a month and a day of school--- and both kids would be perfectly happy to take that month off!

TiredX2 - Thanks

A month to go...that's a long school year!

Hurray for a good year!  That was us last year.

We're counting down the moments left in school in our house.  8 more school days after today.  It's been a rough one, but more on account of my kids being difficult to educate than not having good teachers.  As the school learns more of what it takes to let my kids succeed, I'm confident that future classroom placements will continue to improve.

One major positive of this rocky year is that I now have 100% confidence that the teachers and administrators at the school genuinely care about the academic and social development of every single child.

I'm sorry you, and your children, had a rough year.

This is really great.

Last day for us!

This year was rough.  Our beloved charter school that we had been at for four years unexpectedly closed last summer (I know that the grammar in this sentence is horrific, but whatever...it's summer!  haha) and so ds2 had a rough transition to his new school.  I decided early on that I hated it, but today when I hugged his teachers good-bye, I got choked up.  Oops, I am again now!  haha

Happy summer everyone!  :)

It's my kids last day, too. And my little one graduates from Junior High tonight.

One of mine was sad that today was the last day because some of her friends will not be back next year, and one of mine is so ready for the year to be over and to get to sleep in and not have to talk to people for awhile.

As of 7:00 tonight, all my children are officially highschoolers, which makes me feel old.

My daughter just finished kindergarten, which was her first year of school.  She loved it.  We loved it.  None of my fears were justified.  She did fine, her teacher was amazing, and if every year could go as well as last year, I'd be thrilled.

My daugher's last day is June 13 - when she gratuates HS. There have been issues this year, but for the most part her experience has been good.

Our last day was Friday. It's the first year I didn't feel like I was dragging myself across the finish-line. With all the issues ds has had in the past in school (and out), this year felt the most "normal"--like this is what it feels like to be a "regular" parent. I'm a bit nervous about next year because he'll have two primary teachers (Math & Science, Language Arts & Social Studies) instead of one.

We are done tomorrow. Boo! We usually get out a week earlier but the local school district added an extra break in Feb that lengthened the school year by a week. I'm ready and not ready for the summer. DD2 and her teacher were not a good fit so I am very excited about school being over for her. I am so done with the battles to go to school. DD1 had a great year in a new classroom with a new teacher (Our school has combo grades so they stay in the same room for a while).

We finish next Friday and the kids can't wait. As a family we're not morning people so I'm looking forward to not having to drag them out of bed 5 days a week too. This has been a transition year for us, too, blessedwithboys. Our private school closed suddenly after the school year last year and we made the move to public school. There have been some good things and some not so great things this year, but overall it's been okay. Looking forward to next year, but looking forward to a lazy summer first.
