Hello,
Welcome to the MS Gulf Coast. I live in Ocean Springs. I am the president of MS Friends of Midwives. In MS, CNMs (Certified Nurse Midwives) only attend hospital births. We do have a group of midwives that work at Garden Park Medical Center. Don't be fooled by there name "birth center" it is just like any other hospital. http://gardenparkdoctors.com/office-locations/midwifery.dot
We also have a few direct entry (non-nurse) midwives that serve the gulf coast. They can all be found on the MS Friends of Midwives directory. I know that Renata Hillman, Tera Smith, and Colleen Tullis all work on the coast. In MS, direct entry midwifery is not licensed, thus we have a wide range of skills, experience, and training among midwives. As the consumer, you need to do the work to determine if a midwife meets your needs. I had a home birth in MS and would be happy to provide to talk to you more about it.
I am childbirth educator and doula. You can learn more about our services here: www.betterbeginningsMS.com
