What do you put on a resume?

I only have the relevant experience listed.  Do employers expect your complete work history?  How far back do you go?  For example, I have a few years of professional experience, but do they want to know that I worked in retail or fast food ten years ago?

Also I am a full-time college student.  Should I list the classes I've taken up to this point?

Definitely only include the relevant experience. They don't need to know about the retail/fast food. For your degree you can put "BA expected 5/2013" or whatever the case may be. If there are specific relevant classes, you can mention them in the cover letter, but not in the resume.

I think it really depends on the job. For some jobs, where stability is valued, it can make you look like your employement is spotty or that you weren't able to hold on to them or that jumped from job to job by choice. If you only include relevant work experience, make sure that you mention that at some point of that you have a longer work history than what is listed.
