PhD applications, moving children, moving far away = anyone BTDT?

I have been actively looking for a PhD, with some success for 2013.

My kids are all in school so they are pretty protable, I have funding through childsupport and alimony.

I would like or need my tuition paid, and maybe a small job.

What should I look for?  Any student medical benfits?

No more the aspects of moving a family for a PhD.

Well, we moved twice for my husband's PhD, once for the schooling and once for the fellowship (he had a post doc for his PhD in psychology.) I refused to move again for his externship, in his final year, and it caused huge problems- he didn't match with a program and had to go through a clearinghouse- it eventually worked out, but it's not something to be taken lightly. You'd be "lucky" in that you don't have to juggle the spouse's job needs, but it is TOUGH to move when you're hardly making any money anyway. If you're up in the air and not sure you want to do it, I'd say don't. Do a cost benefit analysis and make sure it's the right thing for your family now, not something you'd just like to do sometime.
