Woke up to a birth story this morning that made my day, and wanted to share. A friend of mine who was pregnant with her second child gave birth yesterday evening. She was at home with her husband and four-and-a-half-year-old daughter. She had been planning a hospital birth since she was considered high-risk given that she has Type 1 diabetes, though she had hired a doula to help her out at the hospital. Anyway, at home, her water broke, she had some contractions, and just under an hour from the time her water broke, out came her 8 lb. 7 oz. baby girl, right into the arms of her husband, the four-year-old daughter assisting. No time to get to the hospital, no time for the doula to arrive, nothing. All turned out amazing and perfect. :)
Gives me a little hope for a speedier upcoming delivery of my second! My friend's birth of her first was similar to mine: hospital, induction, struggle to handle the pain naturally, epidural-- around 21 hours.
Anyway, I've been smiling all day. What an amazing story that four-year-old will have to share with her classmates!
