I really like the name Inara too, but DH vetoed it.

We have a girl name and a boy name picked out but aren't sharing the info with anyone.

My former favourite girl name is my username, and I would have hyphened it as Sophie-Ann, followed by a middle name.  But, Sophie has gotten too popular for me to use it, and I've moved on to other favourites - that was 5 years ago after all.

You caught that, did you ;)

I didn't tell DH where I picked up the name Inara because I'm sure he'd put up a bit of a fuss if I tried to name our daughter after a "companion". I figure the reference would be so obscure by the time she's old enough for school that it shouldn't be an issue.

Our tradition is to name after saints.

A girl: Marie-Therese

A boy: Joseph Michael

We haven't begun to even think about names. The only thing I know is that, if a boy, the middle name will be Elias, and if a girl, either the first or middle name will be some derivative of it.

I have been reading your blog and all I can say is grouphug.gifgrouphug.gifgrouphug.gif. I think it is a lovely idea to honor your son by using his name as a middle name or a similar girl name. It is a beautiful way to keep his memory alive.

For us, we talk about baby names all the time... we are weird! At the moment, I can only come up with boy names... Seely, Enders, or Noah. I'm very suspicious as to why I can't feel out even 1 single girl name. Also I like names that end with the letter Y. Middle names are usually from us (parents), but we are going to pick another persons middle or first name for middle name this time, since we've run out of middle names of our own to pass on. I did tell my DH he can pick the name, but I have to actually like it... because he wants names like Sunshine or Rainbow or Pedal. Even though I'm very crunchy, I do like traditional names.

I love Inara too :) It's on my list as well - also a Firefly fan :)

my guy is so very straight-laced.. I'm not sure what he would think if I told him that she was a companion! He once watched "Memoirs of a Call Girl" with me and was totally appalled.

When I was pregnant the first time I had a boy name picked out in the first few days after my BFP...lol...Christopher Alexander...and to our luck it was a boy. We had no clue what to name a girl!

This time around we have a girl name picked out......Chloe Alessandra, but no clue for a boy!!!!  =)

Wow you ladies are ahead of the game! I'm only 7 weeks pregnant TODAY so I figure (hope!) I have lots of time to think about this!

So far I like:

BOY:

Evan

Ezra

GIRL:

Evelyn

Funny conversation about name with my 6 year old son today.

J: What's the name for a girl?
Me: Cordelia
J: I think I'll call her Deedee

J: What's the name for a boy?
Me: Jasper

J: Okay. I'll call him Thomas.

We added another name to the list:

Aida.... DH loves it being spelled Ada, but I prefer Aida.  He has been asking for this name forever... I just don't like it as Ada, and I saw the spelling Aida and liked it.  I think it is our top runner for girls names right now.

We named Adaline with an a instead of with an e (Adeline) specifically so that we could call her Ada.

I'm not a big fan of it spelled Aida because it reminds me of Aidan, which is a very popular boys name right now. Now, I am totally biased, but I think Ada would go better with Chloe and Hannah, which are both old fashioned names.

Dh will love that! I do like the old fashion names! We will keep those two spellings in mind!

Dh is a programmer and the very first computer programmer (who happened to be a woman) was named ada. So, he thinks it is a strong female name. Having a harder time with boys names....

Ada Lovelace!

A good friend of mine painted a picture of Ada Lovelace that we have been trying to buy from her for two years now!

Aida is a lovely name...just wanted to make sure you knew it isn't pronounced same as Ada though. Aida is "eye-eee-da"...3 syllables.

Hahaha! That is pretty good. Your 3.5 yr old and mine should open a naming consulting service. My son has suggested Yo Ho and Trees so far.

We are still thinking of a middle name for our potential boy name. Name starts w a B as does our last name so I don't want any unfortunate initials like BO or BM.
Any good boy names (leaning more towards old fashioned eccentric) that start w an I, E, G?

We thought of a lot of E names when coming up with DS2's name (Errol). Here are some I liked:

Earnest

Elder

Eldridge

Elm

DS2's initials are EW :(. Oh well! So are his dad's and he's been fine with it. My full initials are JAP which also isn't that nice. duh.gif

We have our girl name completely picked out-- but she'll go by a nickname because the full name is a little out there. We still have to come up with a middle name, which will be a family name. The thing is, I don't want to take away all the family names because my sister might want to use some for her kids. Not that she couldn't use the same ones, but as a courtesy I'd like to save the couple female family names for her that I bet she'd like to use-- like Julia (our amazing grandma), Elizabeth (our wonderful great aunt-- also the middle name of my sister and our mom so somewhat of a tradition). So we might go with a name from DH's side.

As for a boy we have no idea! I think I'm focused on "S" this time around. Don't know what we'd do about the middle name either-- maybe DH's father's name. DS1 has his great-grandfather's name as a middle name (Andrew).

We kept the name a secret last time, but this time our little one is either Mia or Wyo. Just waiting to find out which one!
