Stomach flu

Need I say more? It's awful and has gotten our whole household. I haven't been able to keep anything down all day. Tonight I am doing okay with ice chips alone finally, but still feeling nauseated, and now have diarrhea on top of the vomiting.

As a pregnant mama, when do you start worrying seriously about dehydration? I tried to call my OB's office for advice this afternoon but forgot they close early on Fridays.

BTW, no fever. Just vomiting. diarrhea, malaise, exhaustion, no appetite. And lots of Braxton hicks today, not sure if related or not...

I can't even imagine! Poor Mama!

That's awful!!

Just focus on constant sips of water (not gulps) and especially coconut water with a pinch of sea salt if you can get your hands on it. I always like Dr Sears advice that even though you want to get stuff back in ASAP, giving the stomach some time to rest is really important. Go slow with the fluids, just keep them constant.

I would guess the BH are related to some dehydration and irritation in your GI. If it were me and there no signs of improvement today, I would go in to the ER to get a couple of bags of fluids. If it looks like things are slowing down and your keeping some stuff in, then keep it going and see you how feel this afternoon.

Are you feeling any better this morning?

I hope you feel better really soon!  If you are dehydrated please do go get some IV fluids.  They help so, so much!

Feeling better today...ate a few saltines this morning, and tonight even a couple slices of turkey. I've been trying to rehydrate all day. Still very weak and tired but at least no more vomiting!!

I wondered about the IV thing. From what I recall, when I had my son (c-section) I went without fluids for probably 24 hours and was absolutely DYING of thirst that afternoon. Nevermind that I was being pumped full of IV fluids round the clock. Are IVs normally supposed to quench that thirsty feeling?

No IV's don't quench the thirsty feeling. I know from experience and 2 relatives who were on IV's (allowed nothing by mouth) and they constantly complained about wanting a drink, b/c their mouth was so dry. I don't know if I understand the mechanic's of it all, but I do know what you're talking about.

Glad your feeling a bit better!  Definitely keep pushing the fluids - water is good, add some electrolyte drink every now and then if you're still not eating a lot. Food is important too, but you definitely want to get those liquids in.

Hopefully that's end of it!
