can I dye stained cotton bed cover

I hope this forum is a good place to post this. Maybe in the 3R's as well.

I was gifted a king size cotton bed cover, tightly woven with design in the center and around the edges and short fringes, with a very ugly black-ish stain. It looks like someone put raw cut potatoes on that area.

I'm wondering if I can dye the bed cover to mask the stain. What would you use to dye such a piece? What color would you choose for the color of the stain? My bedroom is all blues so I was thinking a dark navy might be a good choice. How would you accomplish dying it? I was thinking maybe a large plastic storage bin might be large enough to hold the entire bed cover.

Any help or ideas are most appreciated.

Thanks!

To dye something cotton I would probably use a commercial dye.  You might check out Dharma Trading, they usually have good dye and good explanations of what you need and what the dye itself will work on.   I would think a big tub would work out. :)
