I was born in England on an American Military base.. Have lived in the US for the last 39 of my 40 years on this planet.. Tried to get a new drivers license today and was told they cant accept it as it was issued in England.. Never had an issue using my birth certificate until now.. Was told to contact homeland security to get an AMERICAN birth certificate issued.. Am SO confused..  What do I do????

Go back to the DMV and ask to speak to a manager - i was also born in an Army Hospital - in Germany ...about 40 years ago - i first came 'home' to America when i was 17 months old.  If your parents were (one or both) American citizens at the time of your birth ....you are an American citizen...also, i think Army / Navy etc hospitals ARE American soil - my birth certificate is written  in German, but it does say 'US Dept of Sate' on it  - is this your first drivers license?

i use my BC everywhere - never had a problem.   You just got a snaky DMV employee ....

Not my first license. We just moved to another state.. I did ask for the manager and was told the same thing..And also they threw out that since 9/11 govt agencies will no longer accept foreign documents.. I as well never had an issue using my birth certificate.. I cant even use it to get a passport.. Tried already today to get one since that could take the place of my b/c. Am at a loss for my next step

thats just cookoo bananas.....i got my passport - using my BC  - in like 2008 or 09 ....  can you try a different DMV?  perhaps in a bigger city nearby?   It sounds like you have stumbled into a bad crop of DMV employees....

I know mine says 'state dept' written across it - i guess they would be the next contact...or the Army  - not that those are easy solutions!   what an annoyance!!  I wish you luck with it!
