Best places to live?

We're moving towards our goal of ESCAPE FROM SUBURBIA!  And start our own homestead!  But we're trying to figure out what state or country to go to!  Talk to me!

Clean Air? No chemtrails? Not industrial?
Water quality?  Not a lot of pesticides sprayed on the local farms?

Is there a crunchy community?
Breastfeeding friendly?

AP/ gentle parenting friendly?

Do you love where you are homesteading?!  Please share!!

Some time back Mothering had a great article with a title along the same lines - best family friendly and healthy places to love, or something like that. Would be nice to do another online version. thumb.gif

I've moved this to Country Living/Off the grid to see if members here have some input to share. thumb.gif

Someday I want to get the Prudent Places USA book to figure that out.  The book comes on a computer disk and it's supposed to give info on things like that.  Right now I'm looking into moving to Colorado.

Thanks All!!  I did read through the artsy mountain place thread and loved it!  great info.

So, DH and I have decided on Oregon.  That have awesome personal rights laws.  Its a beautiful state with awesome nature!  Ocean nearby.  Never get too hot, never get too cold.  Might be a bit to soggy and rainy, but were willing to give it a try :)

We are looking at the western side of salem/portland area.  theres a lot of christmas trees farms and green.

So thats where we are now.  Probably we will stay in MD for another year or two and save up, try and make a game plan... then pack up the kiddies and hit the road for our cross country move!!  We are excited!!

I ended up making a excel file of the top contenders and that really helped me visualize what the different states had and didnt have!

OREGON HERE WE COME :)  (hopefully sooner rather than later!)

Thanks again!!
