Footwear?

Hi, Ladies!

I am a new doula and about to attend my first hospital birth.  What do you guys wear on your feet for births you attend?  I would think flat, comfy, non-slippy, easy to clean... would that be like, my Tom's?  Flip flops?  Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Flip flops would be a definite no.  They are not sanitary or very supportive if you spend hours on your feet.  I wouldn't wear the Tom's either because they are absorbent.  You have to consider that you may get amniotic fluid or blood on your feet, and you will want to be able to hose off your shoes.  Or you may be helping the mom in the shower or tub and you could get wet.  I wear Skechers work shoes.  They are kind of a plastic material similar to what Crocs are made out off but stiffer and there are no holes.  They are lightweight and comfortable to wear for several hours.  Here's a link.  Good luck with your birth!

You might want to bring an extra pair of socks too.
