I am 12 weeks pregnant and started drinking raw milk for the first time last week. We get it from a local farm, they deliver to a volunteers home and then everyone picks up their milk within half an hour. I looked carefully into the source and there were lots of people there, young families, elderly people etc. all picking up their milk, and everyone seemed very happy with it.
So we bought a gallon, my DH has had some, but not as much as I. I have a glass or two each day. I also made some into yogurt and gave it to DD (8.5 months). DH and DD seem perfectly fine. I was fine for a few days but then about 4 days after I began drinking I started to get loose stools, some stomach cramping and gas. I am somewhat nauseous but that's ongoing from the pregnancy.
I've read that it can take some time for the body to adjust to all of the bacteria and enzymes in the milk, and it can also cleanse out the digestive system. Is that what is happening? I don't feel terrible, just a bit uncomfortable. I haven't had store milk in months, only yogurt made out of skim milk/cream.
I'm debating whether to drink very small amounts for a while or just have a lot to clear out my system and get it over with. I've never done a cleanse, or eaten much fermented foods etc so there is probably a lot of gunk in my gut
We are picking up two gallons this week, plus a gallon of cream.
