Nora had been pretty crusty in general for a bit and had some baby acne also. I thought I would share what magically has been working for us. I found a jar of bath tea from Earth Mama Angel Baby that I had forgotten that we were given a few days ago. It has oats, chamomile, lavender and some other stuff in. I used it for a bath (I used the bag to "wash" her face and ears with and squeezed it out repeatedly over her head after letting it steep for a bit.) and immediately after that bath everything improved. She had some eyebrow crustiness that appear similar to the cradle cap and it has disappeared after the second bath with the tea and her cradle cap is pretty much gone also as is the baby acne and ear dryness/crusties. I really cannot even say enough good things. It is incredible.
Cradle cap and other skin irritations.
Jess - both of my girls were 2 weeks over due. they were both born with dry peeling skin. I refer to it as being over cooked. the peeling skin is normal for being past dates. i knew better for dd2 and had shea butter on hand. we were able to avoid any cracked skin.
Adore- I used shea butter (love it) and it helped, but he peeled a lot anyway. I haven't tried it on his head, but it would be worth trying, now that you mention it. I use it on my hair sometimes for conditioning. All my babies were 42+ weeks but the others retained some vernix, but I think Em was the latest (my new reckoning based on other remembered reference dates put it at 43 1/2 weeks!)
you aren't alone!
Jess - My babies still peeled too. the shea just seemed to help keep extra irritation at bay.
Coconut oil works amazingly too! I rub it all over Lennon's body and scalp when she had a little dry flaking (not really full blow cradle cap) and it instantly healed her skin. I put it on her bum and have never used anything else for barrier or anything on her little bum and so far she has never had any redness or rash in the diaper area. I also put a tbsp of it, dissolved in hot water for her wipes solution (using a warmer which is the only way coconut oil works because it solidifies below 86 degrees or something like that. I use the wipes to wash her face and it makes her skin soooooooo soft and moisturized. I'm all about COCONUT OIL FOR EVERYTHING!!!!
