A girl's name is pretty much set... but neither DH nor I think this baby is a girl.

ohhhh....this is such a pet peeve of mine!! my SIL has "claimed" several boy names and several girl names, even though she's not getting married until later this year and wont ttc for several years after that.  imho, "claiming" names is not cool.  i think if your baby is born first, you can name him whatever you want.  there are just too many variables...your sister might never have kids, might have only girls, might change her mind by the time she actually delivers (which is so common).  my vote is to name the baby the name you and your DH agree on/love. you don't want to regret it forever and/or resent your sister when she doesn't end up using the name after all.  (just my 2 cents...)

Agreed! First one to have a baby gets the name. And the next baby can have the same name if that's waht his parents want. Who cares. My SIL named her DS2 after her dad, knowing full well that her only brother, my DH, would -- according to deeply rooted cultural tradition -- use that name for his son if he were to have one. Her rationale for "stealing" the name was that DH and I had already been married for a few years without having any kids so clearly the name was up for grabs. MIL flipped. DH didn't care. I thought it was a bit odd but really NBD. A couple years later we gave DS his dad/grandpa's name. Wouldn't you know it, in the end both boys go by nicknames.

We have a name picked up if it is a girl, but boy names are kind of eluding us. Our current favorites are Wyatt and Cooper. We like Sebastian, too, but I have been noticing a lot of kids with that name every time we are out in public, which makes me like it less.

I agree that "claiming" names is just kind of crappy. I had a dear friend who's sister was infuriated with her for a good month after she named her son a name the sister had wanted to use. The sister isn't even close to having a kid. Ridiculous.

Claiming names... oh my. People are crazy! I really like the name Oliver, too, but my only niece is named Olivia, and I just think that would be a little too similar. I doubt my in-laws would get mad if I used that though.

I LOVE the name Wyatt! I suggested that to DH but he vetoed that pretty quickly. (His favorite movie is Tombstone, so you would think he would like it?!)

What do you ladies think about Flynn? For a boy? Playing around with that...

I'm kind of stuck for ideas. One name I adore for a girl is Rowena, but my cousin (we're a fairly close-knit family) has a two year old daughter who she named Rowan. I'm thinking they're too close :( Maybe as a middle name?

This is my favorite baby names website:  http://www.nymbler.com  You can enter in names you like and it gives suggestions for similar names you might also like.

Oh thanks for that Kaliki! That will come in really handy!!!

Two names that I love that have been recently vetoed by my husband- Ezra and Humphrey :(

Mamabeakley, my oldest daughter's name is Juniper! We love it, and she gets compliments all the time on her name.

I don't really have any firm ideas about names. We had picked Trystan Ash for a boy name last time but had a girl, I still love the name but for some reason never like to "recycle" names... I don't have any rational reason for it, I just don't. DH still wants to use it but is open to other ideas. We both really like the name Roman but don't like the association with Roman Polanski. Don't have any other boy ideas.

For a girl I like Ylva, no ideas for middle names, but we have used tree names for either first or middle for the first 3 and would like to keep that up. Maybe Rowan. DH and I haven't really talked that much about it since we have been so crazily busy during my whole pregnancy, but things have settled a little bit so it's probably time to start talking about it again!

Evangelina is both my girls middle names. I have Yulia and Yzabella Christos and Marcos. I love Sophia Bella and
GianCarlo, Mileya(my lady in french), Iliana, Celeste, Estrella(star in spanish), Catalaya, i always have trouble choosing. Good luck smile.gif

AveryLostMommy, I love those names! I'm going to run Catalya by DH. If our last baby had been a girl she would have been Natalia Catalina. I still love those bames but have a strong sense that's not this baby's name.

We've almost decided on a girl name if it's a girl- Amelia Briar Dale (We have an Addison, Riley and Bodhi right now, Addison is the only girl)

Nothing for a boy yet. NOTHING sigh.

Darkblue - love Sage as a girl's middle name!  I have such a hard time thinking of those.

For a girl, I've always like the name Morgan (huge Mists of Avalon nerd from way back).  As I've been thinking about names recently, I started liking Ava and Emma a lot.  I guess that shows that I don't hang out with a lot of kids because I was completely unaware how popular both of these names have become! Bummer.  So maybe Emma for a middle name but not a first name.  Other names I'm pondering now: Luna, Elsa, Teagan, and Sonja.

Boys names are harder.  I like the name Rowan best.  My husband likes Finn and Quinn (although apparently both of those are Glee characters???). I've always liked Sebastian, which my mom really wanted to name my brother back in 1985 but my dad vetoed.  Back then it was a very uncommon name but now its very popular as others have noted.  So I'm not sure.... Jasper (family name) is a possibility for a middle name.  I also like the name Reed.

I love Teagan and my 4th DD is Morgann

Jasper Reed is really cute together.

I have no idea on middle names. Might use Anne or Anna for a girls.  No clue on boys still working on 1st name the middle seems to just figure it self out once we find a 1st name some how.

My DH has vetoed Ezra here as well...says it reminds him of some 90s band, or of a creepy old man who likes to kill people?!? duh.gif

I love when my name comes up in baby name discussions! The only drawback to it as a name is that people don't expect it to be so simple. I get Alyssa, Elise, Lisa, Allison, etc. when I introduce myself to people, and then when they do pronounce it correctly and try to write it down an extra i or h often gets thrown in at random.

My son is Jeremy Jonathan, and this baby will have a similar easy to pronounce, easy to spell kind of name. Hopefully not one that's mega popular right now, but you never know what will happen with a name in the future. My sister, Olivia, is outraged that her name became so popular. She recently changed her last name (she's single) so that she wouldn't have both a common first name and last name.

We have a first name pretty much locked in for both boy or girl, but only a few ideas for middle names. I don't think I'm going to share the names until birth, even on here. There's something fun about only DH and I knowing. :)  Some of the ones we've discussed and thrown out are Kevin, Simon, Imogen, Felicity and Lucy.

We finally have a girl name that we like! It actually came from walking around the Keys on our trip, when we were checking out the cemetery (is that too morbid)? According to the stone she had a nice long life, so hopefully that cancels out any randomness. Anyways: Cora. So sweet! We've always wanted to use "Magnolia" as a middle name, so it would be Cora Magnolia. :) I love Coral and like that a little as well, but feel like Cora is a little simpler.

Very pretty name!

Reminds me of a name on my list:  Cordelia.  I also like Coraline and Corinthia.  So pretty and old-fashioned.

Chicajones, Cora Magnolia is such a lovely name! And what a cool story about how it came to you.

Hotsause, I love Cordelia too. And Cecilia. All those "-lia" names really.

Beautiful!! I have had some form of Cora on my list for a few years now. I love how it goes with Magnolia! So pretty!

Thank you for this website! I've got a pretty sweet list going from all of the name suggestions it gives. And it saves the list for me even when I go back to that site after a few days!

Also, I'm so into those "ia" names, too!  I like Ophelia, Cordelia, & Sidonia. Matilda, Zelda, Coralie, Coralynn, & the names I started with are still on that list as well. As for boys, I have a few more:  Ezra, Flynn, Forrest, Owen, Milo, & Emerson.  But none of those boy names I love! Or can even agree on with DH.  We are supposed to find out in another 9 days, (like I'm counting down or anything,) so hopefully I can cut this list in half soon!
