Oh isn't the brutal toddler honesty great? :-/ My 4 yr old says stuff like that too, Rozzie. The baby spit up all over me the other day & i just wiped it off with a cloth & my 4 yr old said "eww mommy you smell yucky" uh, well if you kids weren't clinging to me all day long I could find time to shower but it's all I can do to wipe it off with a cloth and maybe change shirts.

The tiny phase is going by so fast. I packed up some newborn clothes and refuse to get of them right now even though this is likely our last babe. My sister in law is due in November so I figure by then I will be able to part with them & enjoy seeing them on my new nephew.

Just a couple weeks ago I could cuddle Deacon and he would fall asleep so easily. Now he is resisting sleep! He will be *exhausted* and have difficulty keeping his eyes open and yet he will try his hardest not to sleep! I wonder if it is just that he is getting older or if it is because I have been sticking him in the bassinet for naps & he doesn't want to be put down so he is trying not to sleep? He naps for much longer in the sling. In fact he is napping in the sling right now and I have had time to vacuum, fold laundry, and get on MDC!

I'm never sad packing away clothes that don't fit, because I'm excited to put the babies in the next size cute stuff. I am sad if I find it months later. I was sorting through our baby girl clothes and thinking of mailing some stuff to my sister, but I seriously just couldn't part with it. I think NOW I might be ready to part with it... maybe... but at the time I just couldn't do it. Doesn't help that we are thinking of another baby and I really really really want #4 to be a girl so I'd want it all back again.

Toddlers saying things- yep. Nigella is usually very complimentary (mommy, I like your beautiful shirt, you have such lovely long hair, etc) but occasionally I get, "mommy, your belly is getting a lot, lot bigger again" or "mommy, you're really squishy." Thanks, kid.

Resisting sleep- yep. I can't hold him for naps because the other two wake him up, and he still seriously hates the wrap, soft structured carrier and pouch sling (wth?) and hates the stroller. And the carseat. The ONLY thing he likes is if I hold him, in my arms, constantly swaying and bouncing. He likes the swing, too, but hte kids are too noisy and wake him up. So yesterday I moved the baby swing into our bedroom where it's quieter and he FINALLY took a decent late afternoon nap in there (after having about 30 ten-minute naps throughout the day, but nothing longer than that) and he's having a solid afternoon nap right now.

We are- tomorrow- leaving on a 6 hr drive to visit my parents for the week. Gonna be funnnnn. 3 kids and a dog in the car all day. Yuck.

It seems Soren still sleeps a lot. He will get up in the morning for 90 minutes max and then sleep for hours (a d wake to eat or pee) and then be up a little in the late afternoon and then sleep and cluster nurse until bed time at 10ish.

I love how good of a sleeper he is!!

DD napped awesome all day yesterday except for the afternoon.  She went probably 4-5 hours without a nap, so it was pretty difficult getting her to fall asleep last night.  She was SO tired and was fighting it.  After much rocking and laying her down, repeat and feeding her when she got too upset she finally fell asleep.  It was a lot of work, but she went to sleep much sooner and earlier than she has in a long time.  However, she was incredibly  noisy all night.  Seriously, I don't think I got much sleep because of it - and she's across the hall!  She's being noisy right now too, which makes it difficult for me to know whether I should go in there or not.  This is why we don't have a monitor yet...maybe I should look at the video ones so I can tell if she's actually awake or not.

I need to figure out a solution for the afternoon/evening.  There's just so much going on at that time it seems.

Casmer - in our house afternoons are rough because DS1 comes home from preschool- so mornings Ds2 naps well and the afternoons he's essentially dozing but jolted awake every few minutes by a crazy 3 year old.
Makes the witching hour+ (5:45-7) very hard! I've been putting baby to sleep for the night by 7:15 as a result- bath, nurse, swaddle and in crib- and he actually has been doing well at night as a result ... He woke up at about 12:30 and 4 am then up for morning at 6:20.

Will your Dd sleep in carrier?

You mean like a mei tai or something? She won't let me wear her because she wants to nurse, but DH can sometimes get her to. I had high hopes of wearing her, but she only gets frustrated with me.

Right now she's semi sleeping, but on her side...should I be worried?

My babe likes to sleep on his side too. And, when I put him in tummy time, sometimes he falls asleep right there - on his tummy - I leave him, not for night sleep but during the day, when I can see I'm... So the side - I think it's fine

Nah.  Let her sleep how she's comfy.  I let Layla sleep on her tummy.  Even at night.  Her crib is in our room though, I wouldn't do it if she was in a room by herself.

I let Soren sleep how he's comfy. Mostly it's on his side but sometimes he flops onto his tummy and seems to sleep best there. Some days it's stresses me out to have him sleep like that and others not. I just check on him often if he is.

I let my second nap on his belly- not at night, but during the day when I was around to check frequently when he was in the same room as I was. It's the only way he'd sleep. 

Everett only sleeps swaddled, on his back, ideally while moving. I need to find some alternative way of getting him to sleep because if we're somewhere without a swing then he just doesn't sleep. We're visiting my parents now, 8 hrs from my home, without a swing. Yesterday his cycle was asleep for 15 minutes, happy for fifteen minutes, scream for 30 minutes. Repeat. And you'd have to be walking/bouncing the ENTIRE TIME. I'm exhausted. We're here for another 4 days.

I'm giving up on baby wearing. Maybe when he's older or starts solids or something, right now it's a waste of time.

Ok so Everett and Kai are the same age exactly right? (5/14 birthday?) and Kai was 9 lb 2 oz - wasn't Everett around the same?
Unless i am walking with him in the carrier (where he will sleep for over an hour), Kai sleeps for 15 min increments during the day too. Wtf. He's always dozing off, and then always waking himself up shortly after. His startle reflex seems ridiculous.
This actually just started this week - and I'm wondering If he's just becoming in tune with the world and now needs to nap in a dark quiet place?
Actually.. Just as I wrote that I realized he is asleep in his bouncy seat(we've that baby bjorn bouncer, so it's not exactly all that bouncy) right now - next to the dishwasher, which is on.
Maybe I need to have him nap with the darn dishwasher running to get him to stay asleep during theday!

DH (who I will refrain from complaining about too much since I already did that in an earlier post...) keeps asking me why I'm not napping during the day - he doesn't seem to understand that it's impossible to nap with a baby who will only nap when you are wearing all 12 pounds of them and walking vigorously.
It's good for getting fit I guess?!
In general the whole "sleep when the baby sleeps" thing pisses me off. It works in the first week or two but not now, at 6 weeks. Now the only thing that works is coffee !

I put him in the carrier and he screams and screams so I take him out. And then he screams and screams while I carry him, so I'm not sure why I take him out? Maybe if I leave him he'll eventually just go to sleep there and save my arms a bit.

Washing machine.. yeah, should stick him in the same room. That might work.

I find that as long as he has a clean diaper and isn't hungry, if I just push through the occasional screaming when I'm putting him in the carrier - he falls asleep. I stay calm, just gently bounce as im putting it on, sometimes give him a pacifier for a few seconds, and he falls right to sleep. Kai's screaming usually is because he is tired. And the transition is what's hard for him - once on my body he is a lot more peaceful than elsewhere.
So I'd say keep trying to wear him.
The problem here is that 1) I can't wear him ALL the time and 2) it's so hot in boston that we both end up drenched with my sweat after an hour or so. I actually have him nude except diaper and loosely wrapped in muslin blankets sometimes - keeps him more comfortable and I end up the only one drenched :/

white noise is great!  i've started using it during her naps.  she seems to fall asleep easier with it.  we have the computer in our room and i found this website w/ white noise and i put that on for her.  simplynoise.com

We got a white noise machine at a baby shower, I love it! DD screams when she is over-tired as well.  I think she cried for about 5 min in DH's arms last night and then went to sleep.  That was after 2 hours of nursing, bouncing, rocking and me trying to keep her from crying...not sure what finally gave.  I wish she'd let me wear her...maybe in a couple of months?

rozzie- SO agree that it's so ridiculously hot to baby wear!!  Luckily we are mostly in the air conditioned house all day.  I kinda feel bad for my bigger kids, but they can go out and play in the yard if they want.  Since our baby has heart defects she really can't regulate her temperature too well (since she is in relative heart failure basically, but on meds to keep her well enough until she's 4ish months for heart surgery) so I worry about her getting too hot.  When we have to go in the car for long periods of time it sucks because she gets all sweaty and I worry worry worry.  I'm SO not the worrying type... never went through the neurotic first time mom stuff.... I guess I'm making up for it with my 3rd.  Oh brother.

She's definitely my best sleeper though and really enjoys being worn. I wear her on my back too, which people always seem to be really impressed by for some reason.  I get so many comments on the pic I posted on Facebook of her wrapped on my back.

I just got sent a new native baby carrier..stuck her in it and shes asleep and i am comfortable!!! hooray. not had the best of luck baby wearing this go round. just sitting abd holding her or using my dilapidated over shoulder baby holder that doesnt fit right. this is such a wonderful deal!

bought linen cotton blend and dyed it fushia last night after my ring slings came in mail. going to make a ring sling.

any good suggestions for shoulder (large shouldered mama)...?

i am reading along. not really much to add. i have it easier than many of you because the last couple days I just stay in bed 12-13 hours until i get well rested and she has slept 6 hours straight the last two nights too.

i cant put her down without tears but luckily she is sleeping good next to me.

she loves the radio :) sleeps so much better

dealing with awful sore throat. hurts to swallow. gargling salt water and propolis tincture...

still breastfeeding!

Onemore - i posted directions for a RS shoulder for Jynx a while back. I haven't tried that particular one, but it seems the easiest and like it would be comfy. I dont care for a plain gather or the shoulder Maya Wrap uses. I like pleated, but it's a bit of a pain. If you want directions for one though, you can find step by step on Rixa Freeze's (sp?) blog.
