Anyone else from London, ON?

Hi everyone!
Is anybody else here from London or SW ontario? I find it so strange reading some of the stories on here about Medicaid and insurance.... I guess I take a lot for granted, we are lucky to be Canadians! joy.gif

Anybody have experience with midwives in the area? I'm currently leaning towards Womencare Midwives (I'm not even pregnant yet....). I hope there's not a long wait!

Anybody with experience? Does the midwife do your prenatal care? Or would you go to a family doctor or OB for prenatal visits?

A midwife in Ontario is a primary caregiver, so she would do all of your prenatal visits, unless there was a reason to involve a physician. I think that the second you get pregnant, you should contact the midwifery group. There are many people turned away due to lack of midwives.

I've used Womencare for my last two pregnancies. They are amazing! If i ever get pregnant again they are my first call.
Yes, there is a wait list, but i am sure you can call them and maybe go in to the office and take a look around if you are currently TTC. Then, the second you get a positive urine or blood test call them to book an appointment!

Midwives are your primary caregiver during pregnancy and labour, providing you are not a high risk. Should you turn highrisk or need to be induced medically or need a csection then they will transfer your care to an OB but still be your support and become your caregiver again when you and baby are deemed medically safe. They continue their care of you & the baby for six weeks POST partum, then your baby would see the family dr or ped.

I'm technically from London, but live near Niagara Falls now. My family is still in London (parents and sister)

My sister used a midwife in London, but can't remember which practice she was with.
