How do I go about finding a VBAC provider?

I'm not pregnant with my second yet, but plan to try shortly, and I'm new to the area (Chicago suburbs), so I need to find a new OBGYN anyway to have my annual. I know I want a VBAC with my second, so other than talking to others online, how do you go about finding out if a doctor does VBACs? When you call, do you ask to leave a message with the doctor? Ask the receptionist? Ask to schedule an interview? I have narrowed my search to three doctors, but I hear mixed reviews on them, so I'd like to make sure I'm making the right decision.

Find an ICAN chapter near you! They are an excellent resource and can help you find a provider.

The requirements vary by region, but in my state (NY) hospitals are required to post their c-section stats on the Dept of Health website. If you plan to VBAC in a hospital, this can help you figure out which ones are more VBAC-friendly than others.

Ask around in the "finding your tribe" section too. They might have recommendations. Your local ICAN chapter should have stats on their website. I know mine lists them. Then it's all about interviewing and asking questions, and don't be afraid to change your mind, even more than once! smile.gif good luck!
