Natural flee and tick control that actually works

Hi all, 

Just wondering if any of you knew of a product that actually works. I have used frontline in the past, but I really don't want to have my dog bring poison around my kids (feel bad for the poor dog too :) But anything else that I have tried I have ended up with bad bugs and my dog is really super sensitive to bites.

My mother periodically rubs food grade diatomaceous earth into her pet's fur, she said it works incredibly well......no fleas at all. She used the pesticides for years and will not go back.
