alternatives to chlorine in pool?

Thread Starter

Hi, we are buying a house that has a pool... will be so nice to have in the California heat, but I'd hate to use standard chlorine.

What affordable/effective alternatives are there?

thanks for any thoughts!

(and hopefully the health forum is an ok place to post this)

I don't have a pool, but I know a lot of folks who are doing salt? Might be something to research.

nod.gif Yeah, DBF's aunt has a salt water pool.  She has a lot of grandkids that come over so she thought the salt water was safer for them.  Might I add that I went swimming in it while pregnant and it was lovely. kewl.gif

A salt water pool is still chlorinated - it uses the salt to make the chlorine.  But it doesn't have chloramines in it so that it doesn't sting your eyes.  I've swam in them before and they are quite pleasant.
