Knitting is more portable, so if you want to be able to move around the house or take it along on playdates and appts, choose knitting.

Before I had children I was more of a knitter than a sewer but now I find sewing gives me more options. It's also faster. I can make a sewn toy or garment or blanket much faster than I can knit one. It may also be related to our climate. We live in the tropics so I find it easier to see cool clothes than knit them.

I do still knit though and I like to have something on the go for when I'm watching TV at night.

Thanks for the replies.  We are headed out for trip in the morning so I am doing some last minute sewing.  I am not a sewer.  I should probably take a class.  Ds' mini backpack is almost finished but I am having a ton of trouble wiht the machine.  It's so frustrating!  I did turn two pairs of shorts into maternity shorts (much easier then expected) and spliced two shirts together.  Unfortunately I sewed half the shirt together inside out and can't find my seem ripper to pull it apart eyesroll.gif

I dont't know how to knit, can barely crochet, but man I can sew. I actually make costumes and toys all the time. I should put that to good use and make clothing for a change, but for some reason, I have a mental derp when it comes to clothes!

Classes are great if you can manage it. One of the mother's from a group I go to has a clothes-making business and also runs some small classes. I've been to two of them and, as well as learning new skills it's also very motivating.

Just a funny story.  I was at a 6 year olds bday party this weekend with my kids.  And there was a newborn there (one week old).  I'm looking at it and I ask the mom who's son was turning 6 "wow, that's such a small baby!  Was she a premie?  She looks like she's 5 lbs!".  And it turns out the baby was 8 lbs 5 oz when born.  Now about 8 lbs 3 oz.

It goes to show you how quickly you get used to the size of a 3 year old and 5 year old because I could not believe how small the newborn was! And to think I had babies smaller than that!!!  I literally forgot how small a newborn was.  Crazy!
