ilovetchotchkes, this is your spotlight thread!

People can ask you questions, and you can answer (or not, your choice). Or you can just share if you want to. It's up to you!

To get the ball rolling, here are a few starter questions!

  1. Backstory! Tell us about you, where you came from, how you got to where you are now.
  2. What are you craving right now?
  3. If someone handed you $1000, no strings attached, what would you do with it?
  4. What's your favorite type of soup?
  5. Talk about your house a little-- are you happy where you live? Best part about your house? Worst?

1. I'm a mom to one toddler, who is hysterical. I've been married to my husband for about 6-7 years now. We met in a shakespearean acting class (NERD POWER!). We're Jewish (reform) and we live in  a 1914 mission four square house with 2 of the worlds' worst behaved dogs! LOL ok only one of them is really awful, but I love him anyways. We live in a suburb of Chicago. :)

2. Don't laugh. Spaghettios with meatballs. OH they're vile, OH i can't bring myself to eat them but OH how I want them.

3. Pay my doula!!!!!

4. I actually REALLY don't like soup. The only one I like is chicken and rice. :)

5. I love our house, but i wish we had had more time and money to get the basement refinished. We have a 1/4 acre of land, and I have a humongous garden. I've painted all the walls to my mother's epic dismay BRIGHT colors. My sewing room (soon to become baby tchotchke's room) is magenta. (And its gonna stay that color).  The 3 things i'd change immediately are: the kitchen. I'd gut it and put in a dishwasher. #2, no central air (kill me now) and #3, no shower upstairs only downstairs in the basement. The shower is something we can easily fix.

Ha, we have three ill-behaved dogs and our house is also full of brightly colored rooms!

Has this pregnancy been like your last one?  Has anything surprised you?

What did you know this pregnancy that you wished you had known the first time?

Which suburb of Chicago?  (I went to grad school in DeKalb, which isn't really a suburb, but I love the Chicago area.  Except the winters.)

I'm in Aurora.

Completely different pregnancy. PHysically? much better i'm not in as much pain. But emotionally? really hard.

This time, I know how it'll end and i've had the worst of all births I could have had SHORT of having a c-section on top of it. (kid was asynclitic) SOOOOOOoooo I kinda feel I can handle labor a LOT better knowing "what to expect"

My dogs are a corgi and a corgi mix. the mix is the good dog, the full bred is just... a corgi.... they're like toddlers with a napoleon complex and no thumbs.

What is your favorite movie of all time?

What is your favorite food for a snack?  For breakfast?  Dinner?

Do you have a cat or dog or any other animals?  I see where you shared about your dogs but feel free to share more if you want.

If you could go anywhere for a one week vacation right now where would it be?

What are 3 random interesting facts about you?

Monty Python and The Holy Grail is my ultimate favorite movie of all time. i have most of it memorized.

Food- Depends. Before this pregnancy i would have said red thai curry, but for some reason, I"ve had an aversion to it the whole time. :( I'll say Chipotle. NOm.! I get veggie tacos.

We have the 2 dogs, we used to have a cat but she had to be put to sleep right before my son was born- she was refusing the litter box and peeing all over due to pain from a botched declawing her previous owner inflicted upon her (i'd never do that to a cat) and it was all FOUR paws too.  The older she got, the worse she got. Our tarantula died of old age. I'm currently on a campaign to get backyard chickens legalized in my town.

I'd go to either London or Israel. Depending on the time of year. This time of year? London. Winter? Israel. I don't DO well in cold.

3 Random facts:

We're Civil war reenactors

I have a BA in English but my grammar and writing have gone WAY downhill since I graduated 10 years ago.

I someday have this fantasy of having a self sufficient farm. Probably never gonna happen but hey.

What are your 3 best pieces of advice for first-time moms? (selfish question)

How did you guys get into civil war reenactment?

#1 One day, one hour, one minute at a time

#2, if you have to give up some of your "ideals" that you had about parenting- cloth diapering, baby wearing, DO NOT FEEL GUILTY. Parenting is not a reality show, its like being dropped off in the wilderness with a box of matches and a granola bar. I really wanted to baby wear but my son hated it and so did my spine.

#3 Sleep will become the new sex. Remember? when you were first in love w/ your SO? and it was all about the quickies in a closet? now imagine sleeping whenever you can. :)

I got into reenacting because i'm obsessed with the clothing. Basically I'm a 30 year old playing dress up.
