Primary Mead composition journal - originally posted in Learning at School

I originally posted this in Learning At School but haven't gotten any response.  Perhaps this is the more logical place to put it.

Can anyone recommend an inexpensive, reliable online source for the item linked below, or a similar item?  (Someone on another forum suggested these may be available at Walmart or various dollar stores once "Back to School" time rolls around.)

Or has anyone here bought anything from an online company called "Shoplet"? If so, have you had a good or bad experience with them?

I am interested in the grade school composition journal below.

Mead Primary Journal Creative Story Tablet
http://www.shoplet.com/Mead-Primary-.../MEA09956/spdv

They are $1.60 each at Shoplet, with free shipping on orders of (over?) $45.00. I discovered it at a local store for teachers where it costs $5.00. I want DD1 to practice her writing over the summer and she likes the unlined area for drawing at the top of each page.

I did found it first on Ebay where the cheapest vendor is selling a bundle of 7 for $21.00 with free shipping (which comes out to appx'ly $3.00 each). I then scoured the internet and found Shoplet, with the above listing. For the fun of it I went back to Ebay to see if I'd missed a listing from them there. It looks like they are the vendor with the $21.00 price for the 7 item bundle. The fact that it works out to cost appx'ly twice as much probably says a lot about Ebay fees.

Anyhow, I would like to buy 10 or 15 so I need the cheapest price possible but not at the risk of paying for something I'll never get.

TIA,
~Cath

they do have them at krogers\walmart but i think at least here they are about 3.50 or so each. sometimes you can get a discount if you buy a whole box of things from them but you would have to ask... that might also be more then you need.

I don't live near a Krogers and I haven't seen them at any of the Walmarts near me.

I have seen the regular "college ruled" (with the regular spacing for adult handwriting).  Maybe I need to wait until "Back to School" to find the ones with the elementary school ruled lines and the blank space at the top of each page for drawing.

Thanks,

Thanks for the suggestion and recommendation.

This looks a little more expensive than Shoplet but the difference in price is well worth it as long as the site is reliable.  Unfortunately they don't take PayPal.  However, they do take Money Orders which would probably work out as long as I make some sort of decision sooner rather than later.

If anyone can comment on whether or not this item, or something substantially similar (with the blank space at the top of each page for drawing), is likely to be available in the dollar stores towards the end of the Summer, at Back to School time, I would appreciate it.

I was hoping to dress these up a little bit and use them as party favors for DD1's birthday (in late August), so cheaper is definitely much better.  Birthday parties are expensive enough as it is.

I actually bought a few of these at Wal-mart a couple years ago. I didn't find them in the back to school stuff I found them in with the work books and flash cards. They don't ever go on a big clearance here.

Try this one.  Sears is one I'd trust!

I just had a very interesting time with a teacher friend where we were getting different prices from the same site at shoplet.com.  $1.60 each for her - and $2.57 each for me, though the invoice then charged $2.25 each!!  I canceled the order when we realized what was going on.  She ordered from her link.

I have found off brand versions of those at the dollar tree.. It was a while ago though.

My mom did just find these at her target- $2.49 each though- but ok if you can't get free shipping :)

We've used these from Starfall and love them. Blank tops for drawing, lined on the bottoms, very affordable!

Diane,

Unfortunately Sears doesn't actually fulfill the order.

I heard a similar story about Shoplet elsewhere and that is a huge turnoff.

ALittleBitCrunchy,

That is a nice option.  There are only about half as many pages as the Mead but it's way less than half as much and the pages are larger.

How sturdy is the cover?

iowaorganic,

I didn't see those at the Target near me but maybe I need to check out the educational section and not stationary department.  Or maybe I need to check a larger store.

If you look online it will tell you which Targets have them.  Mine doesn't but my mom does.  Then we just called for the price.

Iowaorganic,

This is what I find when I search "composition notebook" on Target's website.

http://www.target.com/s?searchTerm=composition+notebook&category=0%7CAll%7Cmatchallpartial%7Call+categories

The Mead "Primary Journal" that I am interested in appears at the very bottom.  I don't see any generic equivalent, with the blank space for drawing at the top of each page.

If the online finder of items "in stock" is accurate, the closest stores to me don't carry the Mead version.  If the price were right I might be willing to drive to some of the stores in my area but I'm guessing the generic version is cheaper so I'd rather spend my time and energy on that.

Can you suggest some better search terms for the generic version?  If you talk to your mom any time soon perhaps you could ask her for any info on the cover and the sku number or bar code number.

Thanks again for the input.

I think this could be a really fun favor for a birth day party if I can find them at the right price so I can afford to get enough.

Oriental Trading Company has a similar notebook but not as many pages as the Mead notebook. That might be okay for party favors though.

http://www.orientaltrading.com/design-your-own-lined-paper-storybooks-a2-48_9028-12-1.fltr?Ntt=lined+paper

I have ordered from them and never had problems.

I do have one of those Mead notebooks for my dd and we got it last year during back-to-school time at Walmart. I don't remember the price.

I found  the Mead notebook at Discount Office Supplies for a low price but I've never ordered from them. It looks like they accept paypal.  http://www.discountofficeitems.com/office-supplies/paper-pads/notebooks-pads-filler-paper/memo-subject-notebooks/mead-primary-journal-creative-story-tablet/p8711.html

http://www.target.com/p/mead-k-2nd-grade-primary-journal/-/A-13319593  the number you need when you call the stores is the Store Item Number (DPCI) : 081-01-1557.  I don't know about a generic equivalent...  As soon as I have my baby and my mom picks up the kids she will drop these off for me :)

How funny! I bought this for my son a few weeks ago. I laminated one page so I make copies. I bought a three ring binder and punched holes in the copies. I let him decorate his journal binder. He really enjoys writing in it. Hope that helps.
