I need some opinions about my DS. He is 4. I should preface this by saying that he has always had a sensitive stomach and is prone to stomach upset more than my other two kids.
Last weekend he had a random episode of vomiting after being outside in the heat and then drinking and eating alot at once. I didn't think much of it- it seemed reasonable to me that he would be dehydrated and worn out and his food just didn't settle quite right. He returned to normal right after and went on with his day. The next day he took a nap in the afternoon (which is not typical for him, but we'd also been busy and it didn't surprise me that he might be tired.) The day after that, he took a nap in the morning, after breakfast, and slept for 3.5 hours- *very* unusual for him, and I suspected that he may be getting sick. He woke up, however, and I asked how he was feeling, and he said he felt fine and went on being his normal chipper self. There were several instances of him saying he was "too tired" (to go for a bike ride, for example) or "wanted to take a little rest" over the course of the next few days, but no complaints of stomach pain or anything else hurting, even when asked. He had some loose-ish stools, but nothing that alarmed me. Then, over the weekend, he randomly threw up again after snacking on some blueberries and drinking lemonade (on Saturday). He said he "drank too much lemonade". Maybe he did? As before, he returned to normal right after. Then, the following day (yesterday, Sunday), he said that he wasn't hungry for dinner, and that he wanted to lay down. I encouraged him to come sit at the table with us, and at least see if there was anything he might like to eat. He had a few bites of watermelon and a handful of blackberries, and then threw up again. He doesn't have a fever, and no one else in the house is sick or experiencing any digestive problems at all (like, it doesn't seem to be something we're all eating). Aside from the one instance yesterday when he said he didn't want to eat, his appetite has been normal. So far today, nothing of note.
So, I'm not sure what to make of it all. Does it sound like a virus? Something more serious? Should I push probiotics and give it a few days, or take him in to a Dr. ASAP? Unfortunately, I do not have a regular pediatrician right now that I really trust-- we use walk-in care as needed, but generally don't have subtle "just a little off'" symptoms- we're usually there for strep tests or whatever. We are non-vaxing, too, which further complicates just picking up and going to a doctor, kwim? Anyway, that can all be sorted out, obviously, and is not the big issue at hand-- I would just really appreciate some thoughts on what you would do if you were in my shoes. TIA, wise mamas!
