Teething at 3 months????

Ryan has been nawing on everything and slobering alot. Could he possibly be teething already? I thought he had to be atleast 4-5 months before all that! I almost hope not cuz I heard that the longer the teeth stay in the gums the better they are? I dunno but man I feel like he is growing way too fast. Already at 3 months he is on cereal and his first foods! The nutritionist said its cool cuz it fills him up and he doesn't throw up anymore so whatever makes him happy is all good I guess??!!

DS1 got a tooth at 3.5 mos.. DS2 at 2.5 mos.

I'd be really cautious about giving solids too early. My dr said the only purpose for food until 1 year is for taste and texture. The nutrients come from bmilk.

Yep, they grow waaay too fast

Two of mine started that type of teething at only a month or two. Of those two, one did not get his first tooth until almost 11 months and the other got his first at 7 months. So, it could be - but maybe not. I notice they usually get the major signs of teething before anything actually pops out (rash around the mouth, diarrhea, slight runny nose etc.). So, it sounds like he is teething (they're moving closer to the surface) but he may not break any through for a while yet.

I'd like to second the caution at giving solids so young. You might want to look into it further. The AAP says exclusive breastmilk for 6 months. It's desirable to even wait until closer to a year.

I know a lady whose child got his first tooth at 2 months.

My baby had teething symptoms since he was 2 1/2 months old until he was 5 months. Then it all stopped and he still has no tooth (he's 7 1/2 months old now)

So it varies greatly from baby to baby.

My baby started getting teething symptoms at 2 1/2 months and popped it out right after she turned four onths. All that and she was 6 weeks early so if she had gone to term she may have had them a lot earlier. It sucked. Since she didn't start smiliong until she was 3 1/2 months old we relaly missed out on the whole toothless smile thing.

I should have said this before but, I don't BF. I wish to God I did then I would not have a problem with him stayin on it but he has some deal where if there is too much liquid he throws up! He is weird lol! I can't or couldn't BF for one he wouldn't take it and two I was almost dead after I had him so he got hooked on the bottle! No excuses but I was very impatiant aswell! Belive me if there were a way to get the milk back and do it all over again I would in a heart beat! He is happy with the food he only does bananas and only has a teaspoon at a time if not less. He does eat a Rice and Formula bottle every night before bed and thats it.

We are in a totally different boat (and yet, similar situation). DS got his first tooth at 7 months. And since then he is getting them and a break-neck-speed. He just turned one and guess what I found in his mouth this morning??

A Molar!!!

Please someone tell me that 12 months is WAY to soon to be getting molars??!! Especially when he just started getting teeth a couple of months ago.

Can we stop the growing process?? (a tear in my eye)

This is just my little opinion, but I think that "teething symptoms" a lot of the time really aren't that. I think babies just developmentally get to a place where they want to get stuff in their mouths to check it out, drool, get fussy for whatever reason. Simon did these "teething" things starting around 3.5 months and got his first tooth at 6 months. Surely his teeth weren't bothering him 3 months before they came in -- it was just where he was at at the time. Then when the teeth actually erupted, I wouldn't even have known if I hadn't happened to glance into his mouth .
That said, I have met babies who got their first teeth at 4 months.

Teething takes a long time. While it's true that babies put things in their mouth to explore them, any time a baby is drooling exessively, fussing, and gnawing on things then they are teething. The teeth have to move up to the surface before they can break through. With my 2 that were teething for months before anything broke through I found the same to be true as you described with yours. The actual breaking through wasn't so bad because they had already been working at it for so long. With my dd who didn't teeth for months before breaking her first tooth through it was a lot harder for her. So, yes your guy was teething and in pain and trying to work on that tooth.

Welcome, RyansMom, and thanks, b/c i was just coming here to post the exact same question!

ds is 4 mo and the last few days has been unusually fussy, won't nurse or nap when he should, drooling like a demon, and gnawing on everything he can. (the gnawing part is pathetic, b/c he doesn't yet have the coordination to grab anything and put it in his mouth, so he just waits for something to zoom by and then CHOMP.)

so he is such a sad little monkey these days . at 7pm went down for his first real nap of the whole day! (still asleep now, and so i'm wondering... will we be up all night?) and i am such a sad little monkey's mama b/c i have lots of work to do and i need those naps, man.

so, is there anything i can do to make it easier on him?

guerillamama,

There are a lot of things you can do for teething but the thing I've found to be the most helpful for my babies is a bag of frozen vegetables. It feels so good to them to be able to chew on it and then it also numbs the pain a little. Once they get a lot of sharp teeth though they could tear the bag so then it may become a danger. I'd have to say though all three of mine would recommend it!

Another thing I found to be a guarantee of pain relief is Gummyrub. I got it from Whole Foods. I have to warn you though, I only use it when teething times are desperate! It tastes aweful and they absolutely hate it! But after a minute then it's completley numb and they're so relieved they fall asleep. It's some powerful stuff.

This thread is making me sad. DS is 4 months today and has been chomping on everything for weeks. Man he bites hard! I like him with no teeth. I was so anxious for DD to grow. I wanted to see what would happen, that I looked forward to every new tooth, I started food way too early (around 4 months) and now I just want this baby to stay my baby. He's already so big...

Okay now that I'm veering OT, I'll just go cry...

I feel for ya

Brandon is my first, and I also love his toothless grin. He's 7.5 months old and no tooth in sight. He also started gnawing on everything at around 4 months, drooling a lot, etc. But it stopped. Maybe his brain is concentrating on his developing motor skills now.

Enjoy every moment, that's all I can say. Everybody tells me that too because sometimes I feel he IS growing up too fast

Cheers,

Have you ladies every tried Hylands Teething tabs (or gel)?? This stuff works GREAT!! It totally helps with the fussiness and irritability. It is totally safe and you can use it as often as you need to. It is a life saver!! You gotta try it!

And I must say that teething sypmtoms can be misinterrpretted, but it does exist. My best friend's little baby boy had it SOO bad. He didn't get his first tooth until he was almost 11 months old, but he was miserable for weeks (maybe months before that..off and on). His gums were swollen and he screamed when you touched them. On top of that he was feverish and had bouts with diarrhea. Poor buddy!

All this to say that teething symptoms do exist and when they do...you gotta try the teething tabs!!
