Gassy baby breastfeeding advice

My DS has been gassy at night and occasionally during the day. He is uncomfortable and fussy, but only a couple times inconsolable when gassy. I don't think it is anything I am eating like milk because he has no other symptoms. He never spits up, no skin conditions, isn't mucousy. Just to be sure I will give up dairy for a week to see if it gets any better.

I know gas is totally normal. I just want to make sure our breastfeeding isn't causing it. Right now DS will eat every 3-4 hours at night (9:30 before bed, 1ish, 4 ish, 7ish). During the day he will eat at least every hour, often every 30 min, though he does take a 2-3 hour nap in the afternoon. At all his feedings he will eat through one let down and maybe a few more minutes before I can no longer rouse him. He only eats off one breast at each feeding. I rotate breasts but with as frequently as he feeds he sees each breast every hour to at most every 2 hours. Sometimes around his longer sleeps he will eat through two let downs. Often in the evenings he sucks and eats nonstop from around 5 until bed. When he does this I have a problem getting let downs and will rotate breasts, massaging down any milk that I have just to keep him from getting too frustrated.

In general he seems like a snacker. Could any of our feeding habits be causing more gas?

my dd is like this too.  but in addition to being gassy she also had green poop so I started block feeding and that really helped.  I started with four hour blocks and now we are down to 3.  If I ever break the block because I think she is hungry she will get gassy with the green poo so I have been more consistent with it.  She really just seems to love to nurse.

NicMom, I could have written your post about Odin. Hopefully there will be some wise and knowing replies!
