How much are your babes sleeping?

My LO is a week old tomorrow (how is that possible????) and is sleeping a TON!  I think I just forget what this newborn stage is like...sleep, eat, poop, pee, repeat...but he is sleeping a lot.  As in nurses and goes right back to sleep for long chunks.  At night he is in bed with us and while time is still foggy to me I am pretty sure he has done a 5 hour stretch, definitely lots of 3 hour stretches...This just seems so long for so early.  He is not interested in sleeping in anything but our bed and next to me, so if he were sleeping elsewhere he would be waking plenty!  Just very cozy next to mama...what are your LO's doing as far as sleep?

My big chunk sleeps a lot.  So far he only wakes up a couple times a night.  I have to wake him to nurse at night and during the day.  He has no tolerance for a wet or dirty diaper, he'll wake up every time his diaper is wet.  He seems to sleep most of the day but when he is awake he is very alert.  He is up every evening until pretty late.  I often fall asleep before he does.  I have a cosleeper which I think he would be ok in since he is such a hard sleeper but I always fall asleep while nursing so he just sleeps with me.  I am really careful with the one pillow and the covers.  I have the covers so they only come to his armpits.  He was content to be in his moses basket while sleeping during the day but the last three days I have held him or put him in the sling.  I had some terrible, emotional days (MIL was visiting and driving me f*ckin crazy) and he seems to reflect my mood.

Do you notice a difference with temperature and texture and how your baby sleeps?  My little guy is much more content in a minimum amount of clothing and he likes his clothes fuzzy.

I'm counting my blessings livelaughlove!  My daughter was up all night, all the time.  I feel rested and so much better with this big sleeper.  I hope he keeps it up.

Reid is almost 3 weeks now and is pretty much only awake while nursing.  He has one awake and fussy period most afternoons/evenings that is maybe 3-4 hours long.  But than that he's sleeping or eating.

I knew a newborn would sleep a lot, but I didn't realize it would be this much!

At night he generally sleeps okay in his moses basket beside my bed, and in the day he really only sleeps if his face is smooshed against me.

My daughter is 5 weeks old and still sleeping a ton!  I keep asking myself if my first daughter slept this much.  I thought she was awake much more after only 2 weeks.  Also, my newborn loves to be held when sleeping!  She is getting better about sleeping in a bassinet or will sleep in a bouncer, but seems to hate being put down.  This makes it very difficult to sleep at night!  Hoping this changes soon.

Livelovelaugh, my 2 week old sleeps exactly like yours.  He has an awake/dozing period in the morning and again around supper time. He's exhausted all afternoon, waking up every 1.5-3 hours to nurse.

Yes!  When he's not in my arms, he sleeps best wrapped up in his fuzzy blanket and cuddled in the boppy pillow, which I put right where I had been sitting so it is nice and warm.

Another super sleeper here.  DS 1 was the worst sleeper ever so this is a big change for me.  It's certainly made the recovery from labor and transistion to 2 kids easier.  DS 2 doesn't fall asleep until 11:30 or so but that requires some magic combo of bouncing/walking/nursing that I haven't figured out yet.  Then he'll do about 2 chunks of 3-3.5 hour, then a 1.5 or 2 hour chunk, then up for about an hour then back to sleep for most of the day.  He's started rousing a little to nurse every 2 hours or so but in the beginning, I had to wake him up for that too.  He sleeps in arms or in the pouch during the day.  I can usually get him to sleep for about 1/2 hour in the bouncer at some point.  He doesn't seem to like to be swaddled or wrapped up.  At night, he sleeps next to me in the big bed.  He definately sleeps better if we are touching.  I go back and forth about worrying about the amount of sleep he's doing and when he's doing it but I remind myself that the only thing constant about babies is how everything changes.  I bet in a couple weeks, I'll be looking back fondly at the 3 hour chunks of sleep at night.

ETA:  He's 3.5 weeks old

We talk about the different kinds of sleep our little guy does....we put him in the bouncy seat so the three of us can eat dinner together, and that is his most fitful sleep....arms flail every once in a while and keep him from a deep sleep.  We call the cradle swing my sister lent us the "heavenly bed" because he really zonks out when his is in there, it's so cozy!  He sleeps in the bassinet next to our bed at night.  He is a big grunter, though, so it is starting to really disturb the sleep we are getting.  He tends to go 3 hours overnight.

I have a bobby brand papasan and a swing that reclines.  So far my little baby does not like either of those.  He is a great sleeper until dinner time rolls around.  Then he is up until about 10.  I should plan my day around this- eat dinner earlier but I can't really do that.  So far I eat with him in my arms.  Any great soothing baby chairs/swings?  Or has anyone had a baby that just didn't like any soothing chairs?

Yup. My older son and younger daughter never liked swings or chairs until they were older.  This new LO does't care for his swing very much, but tolerates being put down on his boppy

My little guy is 8 days old and yes, he does sleep alot! I think we've finally figured out his style of nursing and I've been waking him at night to nurse every two hours because he sometimes just nurses on one side and then conks out! ---So he needs to nurse more often. He really does sleep well and has slept at least a 4-hour if not 5-hour stretch at night--but like the other poster said I'm not sure b/c he's cosleeping w/me (the co-sleeper hasn't been used at all yet this time except for baby blankets!).

My only concern has been that he eats enough and I'm certain he is b/c of the amount of wet dipes.:)

My girl is still sleeping almost all the time. She is fully awake maybe an hour or two a day total when not nursing... that's in a 24-hour period. She will sleep anywhere, held or not held, and she puts herself to sleep if you lay her down sort of awake. She is also sleeping four-hour stretches at night. I think I got lucky!

nak. our little girl sleeps a lot! she is only awake to feed and then she dozes off again. she is 2 weeks old. this is so different from DS1! i keep wondering when its going to flip around... but i guess i better just enjoy it. as a side note she grunts a lot at night - this is whether she is in the co-sleeper oor bed with us. the one place she doesn't seem to grunt so much is in the swing. im thinking we might try the swing at night. the grunting really keeps me up!
