Who's waiting to see/hear that little heartbeat? « Back to Group Discussions

I know a lot of us mentioned our first appointment in another thread, but I wanted to see who all has seen or heard a heartbeat and who all is still waiting. 

I was disappointed yesterday because although I had my first appointment with my CNM (complete with pap smear while my toddler looked on in confusion....ha), I am too early on to see the heartbeat (as expected) and have to wait till Thursday for my dating ultrasound.   Which is fine, but it was a rather anti-climatic appointment.  I'm just glad I'm not completely positive of my due date, because I really do want that dating ultrasound.  I don't usually get a lot of ultrasounds, but it will be nice not to have to wait another month to hear baby's heartbeat.

So, when's your next appointment?  Do you expect to hear the heartbeat then?  Are you getting an early ultrasound?

Even better, have you already seen your little bean?  Post pics!

I have an ultrasound tomorrow morning at 7:30am and I'm bursting at the seams with excitment! I'm supposed to be 7 weeks and 6 days tomorrow, so there should be a little heartbeat.

I called the midwives here as soon as I found out (last week), but they won't be getting back to me for another couple of weeks to let me know if they have room for February or not. I can't imagine they wouldn't since I feel like I was barely 2 weeks pregnant when I called but you never know.

I made an appointment with my GP today just to get the blood test stuff out of the way, and also in case they don't have room I'll have to go with an OB instead, which will need a referral. My appointment at the GP is Thursday. The secretary was very excited when I told her the reason (her son and my daughter are friends, so she's also a casual acquaintance), which was nice since we haven't told anyone really yet.

I am 7w1d today, I have a doppler that i bought when i was pregnant with my 2nd after i had a m/c at 11 weeks the pregnancy before that .. I just couldn't relax and having the doppler has really helped me relax even when i can't use it yet..cause i know as soon as i'm far enough along i can reassure myself and not have to wait for monthly appointments.   I haven't charged the battery yet because i'm trying to hold out til 8 weeks to even try it.  Last time, i tried for a few days up to 8wks 2days and couldn't find a HB then went on vacation and found it easily when i got back at about 9w3d .. I have a midwife appt at 8w5d so i'm also holding out hope that she will be able to find the HB if i can't before that. 

I have no plans at the moment for an early u/s (i feel that the will power involved with this statement is really impressive lol)

I am waiting to tell pretty much everyone until i find the HB so i hope it happens sooner rather than later.. My dad leaves town July 15th 1 day before 10 weeks, so i really hope i can find the HB ASAP otherwise i'll have to tell them without hearing it cause i want to tell them before he leaves..

Teles- are you due the 7th too? I think Im 7 w 6 days tomorrow, although Im sure my us will measure the baby at less than that, as both of my previous kids measured small at dating ultrasound. I was TTC this time and took an OPK, so I know when we concieved exactly. (knew with both of my last ones too, mainly just because it was the only time we'd had sex in a couple of weeks )


I have an appointment tomorrow and I am desperate to hear the heartbeat/ see a us. I have become terrified (now, after the office is closed and I have no way to confirm this information) that they havent scheduled an ultrasound for me tomorrow. That I'm going to go in there and they are going to be like, "Oh good, you are pregnant. Congratulations. Lets do some blood work and come back in three weeks for your ultrasound."

I need this ultrasound. I need to be able to see that everything looks ok, and like it is progressing well and to hear the heartbeat. That is why I made this early appointment, and I cant believe that I didnt make is super clear on the phone that I wanted an ultrasound. I'm going to be so disappointed if we get there and they havent scheduled me for an ultrasound.

I have a doppler, but it's not supposed to be able to pick anything up until 10 weeks, which is when I had my first ultrasound with my other two kids.

If we see a heartbeat tomorrow (fingers crossed), I'm planning to buy a doppler.

I'm not sure why they wait until 10 weeks for the first ultrasound if they don't suspect issues. It's sort of like my confusion as to why they don't do blood tests at your yearly physical - you're there anyway, why not make sure there isn't a problem before any damage is done?

There is a crazy list of rules that I received in the mail with my appointment date that laid out the dos and don'ts of u/s, which I found somewhat offensive but also a little funny. Don't pester the technician with questions, don't have food or drinks anywhere in the waiting area, do not take any recording device into the u/s area, we will not give you pictures so don't ask, only one person over the age of 12 may accompany you, etc.

Really makes the whole experience magical, doesn't it

That IS weird. Is this your first with this doctor? I seem to remember a whole packet of stuff when I first went to my OB, three years ago, but I havent received anything like that in a long time. I cant even recall filling out any paperwork last time.

My OB just typically doesnt SEE patients before 10-12 weeks if there isnt a problem. I have no clue why.

Teles, do you have to have a full bladder for your ultrasound tomorrow?  I was told to "drink 32 ounces 1 hour before the ultrasound".  I've never had to have a full bladder before....not sure how my stomach is going to tolerate that much liquid!

I see my midwife at 12 weeks and we will hear the h/b with a doppler. I can't wait!! I am 6+3 right now!

I'm 7w2d today and have my next midwife appointment when I'm almost 11 weeks. Hoping we can hear the heartbeat at that appointment!

I will have my first appt with mw on 7/9.  I will be 9+4, so hopefully we will hear the heartbeat!  I was super nervous about another loss, but now I am feeling ok about the wait.

I see my midwife next tuesday @ 10 weeks, hoping she'll bring out the doppler! and is hoping to get me in for my 3 month ultrasound next week or soon after

adaline'smama: There aren't ultrasound machine in offices here, everyone has to filter through the children's hospital.

rachieface I did have to drink a bunch water but it was only 2 cups (16oz) one hour before. I can't imagine drinking double that, I was nearly going to burst as it was.

My EDD was moved to February 14 (one week later) from the measurements of baby.

I am pretty sure of my conception date and therefore, due date (Feb 5). I thought I was coming up on 9 wks? Am I wrong?
My u/s- first OB appt is this Friday.

Twins! Wow! :) That is one reason I would almost like to have an US. I have a MW and have never had a US, but if I were going to have twins, it sure would be nice to prepare ahead mentally. :)

i had my 2nd ultrasound today. my first one i was 5w3d going by lmp but the sac/fetal pole measured 6w3d. the one i had today i would be 6w5d going by lmp but the sac measured 7w4d and the fetal pole measured 7weeks. what edd do i use? she also was able to get a heart rate this time...117...thats on the low side of normal, yeah? i was glad to see growth and get a heartrate this time.
